Tube Fed Semi Auto Rimfires?

Actually I like magazines better, but say you buy a RS22 or a Plinster for $200, then another four or five mags cost another $200. So, maybe time to rethink not having to buy mags or fish around pockets for them.

I get your point, extra mags are costly, but one is always included for the initial purchase price, so base price tube vs mag is a wash
yes you don't have to fish for a tube as it is stuck on the rifle
another point for mags is the ease of unloading the rifle, drop the mag vs unloading the tube, convenience goes to the mag
imho of course

I've got a Stevens 87D. I like it a lot. I think it holds 14 in the tube, I can't really remember, haven't owned it too long and haven't shot it a ton.

One of the things I really like is that the action is unique - if you hold the trigger after firing it locks the bolt to the rear, and doesn't cycle forward until you let go of the trigger. (This is why it has the nickname the click-clack gun.) You can also lock the bolt in the forward position via the charging handle to stop the gun from cycling when you pull the trigger, effectively making it a manual repeater rather than a semi auto. I guess theoretically that could help with accuracy? I dunno, haven't tested it.

Mine wears a vintage scope that came with it, just feels right on a gun of that age even though the glass quality isn't very good.

Best part is the price! I paid like $125 for mine as part of a combo deal for it and an Iver Johnson single shot 12ga. I've seen MANY on the EE for under $200, only thing you can get new for that price is a Savage 64 and... well, its a Savage 64, enough said. lol

I saw a Remington speedmaster at a gunshow a few yrs ago in mint condition. Really kicking myself for not buying it. I have a semi & a bolt with mags already but I really took a fancy to the speedmaster. Don't see them often and not interested in buying one that's beat up.

I think your pricing is not current - Used Brownings come up around $600-700 pretty regularly, and Tilsonburg has it new for under $900. The Norinco seem to go for around $300 give or take . These can be a good option, but I'd be careful not to overpay.

NEW Brownings are $1299 at Cabelas and Sail is $965 + tax. Tilsonburg does have a good price at $885 and goes up over $2000. And Wolverine has the JW-20 for $175. Used prices are good.

That Browning at Cabela's is the "Challenge" version - Not my cuppa, but I'm sure some guys love it! And yes, the fancy grades get real spendy.

I haven't seen any new Norinco clones (JW-20) for several years now, at $175 that is exceptional value. I dehorned and refinished one years ago, I thought it turned out surprisingly well:

I checked and its listed at $175 at Wolverine, but its sold out. I haven't seen a new one that cheap in a long time either, so either they sold out a long time ago but never deleted the item from their webstore or someone got one hell of a deal. Even used ones on the EE are well north of $200 these days (the only one I see there right now is asking $330!)

Really wish I bought two when Canada Ammo did their 12 Days of Christmas like 9 years ago and they were on sale for $125...

I bought 3 of them from Tenda when they were dirt cheap, one is scoped, one has irons, one is untouched and will be used for spare parts lol

Remington model 550-I they use a floating chamber that let you consistently cycle and shoot 22 shorts, longs and long rifle. They're groved for dovetail rings too. If taken care of well, they should still be a fantastic firearm.

Interesting thread. Always like tube magged .22 rifles. Had two Marlin 60s, a Winchester 190, a Springfield (not sure of the brand) 87 but it had "fishgills". The Winchester 190 felt the best for me. They were all uber reliable though. Can't recall any kind of failure. Anyways, I preferred the accuracy of bolt actions, so sold them all. I still have a Marlin XT-22 Tube that fills my need for accuracy and a tube mag.

I love my Marlin 60 SS. Don't get it out all that often as I have other options. However, I was shootnig possum with it last week. Lots of critters around the chicken coop these days!

Strange the only current production and reasonable price seems to be the Mendoza Puma!
I did pick one up for $250 new and am pretty impressed.

I love a lot of the ones everyone is bringing up but when it come to having been out of production for five to seven decades it gives me doubts about picking them up.

The vast majority of my .22s are at least 50 years old. And more closer to 60. They are generally in excellent condition all around and function 100%. I wouldn't hesitate on picking up a 60-year old rifle in good condition.
