.....Twelvette.....

Sold one on EE a while back. I guess I was under priced, I was inundated with emails. Could have sold 20. I never liked them much and that was indicated in price. Glad you found one you like. They are a fine handling gun.

My father’s was passed to me, and as much as I found it to be aesthetically pleasing and very functional, I didn’t really shoot it much. I found it fit very well, the trigger was ”just right”, the safety was easy to use, easy to clean, and it pointed easily. I sold it to a CGN’er (Vmax, if memory serves), who restored it beautifully. Perhaps he’ll chime in...That’s a great find, Looky, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

I bought one new about 1968 with factory installed Cutts Compensator for hunting and skeet. Whether the Cutts weight messed up the recoil system or what I don't know but it was really critical to keep clean and well lubed. Loved the gun though for skeet and crows. Also had the super lightweight 20 ga with alloy barrel that was a real sweetie...alas: sellers remorse on that one.
The one in the picture looks suspiciously short at the muzzle and I wonder if it has been shortened after having a muzzle attachment such as a Cutts removed from a 28" barrel? I don't recall whether they were made with 27 1?2" barrels but reference to an old catalogue or measuring the choke vs the choke designation on the barrel would solve that question.
Regardless, it is in beautiful condition!

I woke up this mourn'in with this thought in me tete.
No matter how I measure the bawrill with cleaning rods and tried using a different tape, I still
end up with 27-1/2".
If this Twelvette came originally equipped with a screw knob choke system, would Browning still
stamp the Full Choke * symbol on the barrel?

Anyone care to measure the last rib riser length at the bore?

She smells like G96.
So does the shop.
Nudder story furr nudder day...........................

Yes, would likely be marked as for the original choke designation. And don't discount that the Cutts, Lyman choke or whatever might have been added after, rather than at the factory. Measuring the length of the foremost rib post (at the muzzle) of yours compared to other guns will tell the tale... Also, how much constriction can you measure at the muzzle? There should be at least .030" if it still is a Full choke but I suggest you might find it is Cylinder.

Actually just checking online I see there have been a number of double autos listed as having a 27 1/2" barrel. I think you have to take barrel lengths shown on the internet with a grain of salt. From what I see I've found information that says the double auto came in 26, 28 or 30 " barrels with the twentyweight having 26 1/2". Well I just dug mine out and measured it and it is 29 " if I measure to where the barrel meets the action or 29 1/2" if I use a cleaning rod down the bore until it hits the bolt face. And I know it hasn't been cut.
