Twist rate for Mohawk 600?

I just bought a Rem Mohawk 600 in 6mm with a 18.5 barrel. Anyone know the twist rate and what it likes to burn and bullet weights it likes?

An easy way to find out would be to put some masking tape on you'r cleaning rod & mark it with a pen . Then count the revolutions vs the lenght of you'r bbl .

should be 9" twist....there's a cure for those pistol barrel 600's...it's called a 22" 700 barrel.

Rick is correct. My Rem 6mm's vary in their appetite, you really will just have to shoot it and see what it likes. - dan

Clamp the end of the barrel in the vice ,put a 36" pipe wrench on the action,2 turns aught to do it, should be plenty of twist ,It's only a remington.

The specified twist in that Remington barrel is 1-9¼" This will stabilize any hunting bullet you are likely to use up to and including the Speer 105 grain SP. I had great success with the 100 partition and IMR4350 in the short tube. IIRC, I got 2940 (+-10)fps with 45 grains. [work up from 3 grains below, please] These rifles are generally quite accurate. When it was known as the .244 it had the varmint slow twist 1-12" I recall?Harold

in order to have three of four turns with a 9" twist it would have to be 27" or 36" long......an 18-1/2" barrel with a 9" twist will have a bit less than two turns......there's no rifling in the chamber so the rod won't turn thru there....

the only 244's with the 12" twist are 722's and first year 700's...

I check mine from the muzzle with a bronze brush attached.A piece of masking tape around the barrel and a dot marked [lined up] on both the tape + rod.When it lines up after being shoved down the pipe mark rod again measure length.Done...................Harold

9 inch twist??? you couldnt get nine twists on it, it would twist off by then? dont think the steel would take that
