Two cartridges for hunting Canada......continued

I guess I should respond with an answer as I started the thread. Mine would be a 30-06 and 338 Win Mag built on LH Model 70 actions.

30-06:
LH Model 70 Classic action
Fwt barrel contour
McM EDGE compact stock
Williams Oberndorf bottom metal
Williams extractor
Talley LW mounts
Leupold FX II 6x36

338:
LH Model 70 Classic action
Light weight contoured barrel
McM Edge compact or Echols pattern stock
Williams oberndorf bottom metal
Williams extractor
Talley LW mounts
Leupold FX II 6x36

9.3x62 1951 FN Mauser 98 in a quality fiberglass stock with full aluminum 6061 chasis
7x57 Santa Barbara 98 in a quality fiberglass stock

or the other pair, kinda depends on weather its a wood or glass day

9.3x62 CZ 550 lux
30/06 CZ 550

.308 Win

Rem Mod 7 SS
Mcmillan Hunter's Edge stock
Talley Low's
VX II 2-7x33mm

.338-06

Rem 700 SS
B&C Medalist Stock
Talley Low's
VX II 2-7x33mm

Would probably chose a Kimber 8400 Montana in 30-06 with a 2.5-8x36 leupold and a 8400 classic in .338 Win. Mag with a 1.75-6x36 leupold. The '06 would shoot 165 TSX's and the 338 would eat 225 Accubonds. Wow, I really need those.....:D

Everyone knows they don't really need two different rifles to hunt everything in North America. Most could hunt forever with nothing but a 308 and do just fine. Given my usual success rate, I could carry a club and do as well!
Knowing this doesn't make any difference though and I also have a bunch of overlapping rifles and rifles built for a purpose which will probably never present itself. The point is, if one wants two rifles, make them different enough to make the choosing of one or the other on a given day easier. One might be a lightweight 30/06 bolt action and the other a 45/70 single shot or a 30/30 lever action. To have a 280 and a 338/06 is bordering on redundancy and that's boring. Regards, Bill

Main 2 rifles

My 2 main rifles are:
1-Remington 700 Mountain rifle (blue/walnut) .280 Rem, Leupold VXIII 2.5-8 (Leupold DD rings/bases). Owned over 20 years, sub 1" 3-shot groups, light weight.
2-Remington 700 BDL SS/DM 7m/m Rem Mag,Bushnel Elite 3200 3-9X40 (Leupold ss bases/matt blue rings). Owned 10 years,sub 1" 3-shot groups, foul weather rifle,not overly heavy.
Granted there's not much difference between .280 and 7m/m mag. Weather conditions or style of hunting determines what I'll carry, sometimes a "gut feeling". Either way I always take 2 rifles on a hunt. With these 2 rifles I've taken probably 20+ deer and a few other critters over the years. Now after that being said, I might take along a new (to me) Winchester M70 .300 H+H(1954) for Alberta Elk/deer hunt in September.
