I DO NOT buy into this gun control vs poaching thing. Lots of ways to manipulate laws through so called poaching laws (and other methods) to disarm people. They are NOT separate.
Around here the MNR are restricting access to all kinds of bush roads (it's happening all over the country). I personally know men and women who are so frustrated with not being able to go where they always have, they ended up selling their rifles since they felt they could no longer use them. DISARMED.
I personally know men and women who have applied for (also meaning paid for) moose tags for as long as 30 YEARS !!!! .. and always been denied. So frustrated not being able to moose hunt they sold their rifles. DISARMED.
Don't any of you dare tell me the hunting laws are not being manipulated to DISARM people.
This started wayyyyyy back, long before the anti-gun agenda. It was in place when I took my hunting course in 1974. I had a Savage 24 in 20/30-30, and was often warned that if I had any CF ammo, I would have to have a big game license or else. I always did, as bear and rabbit was open, IIRC on Sept. 1, and grouse on the 15th. Back then, my old man used to pack a Llama 1911 (semi-, or mostly- illegally) when he went berry-picking in the summer, and when he ran into a CO or cop, they would usually end up firing a few mags at the sand pit. The very same CO's that checked for big game licenses with my 24. I sincerely think this reg is about game management. But it, like the .270 caliber restriction, should be reviewed, as things have moved so far ahead with modern bullets, that those laws should be placed right below the buggy-whip regs and the rule-of-thumb standard.
