Seems the furniture is too short, the front retainer would need the pin popped out, moved rearward amd re pinned to barrel

How can you say that? It was hilarious and well put together

Yeah if it was meant to be funny but he was arrogant in his first response to me. I spent lots of time on google and other forums trying find a solid answer. Only JasonGTA was able to do so and thus the purpose of the forum has been fulfilled!
Why some people try to condesend to complete strangers is a mystery to me. But I suspect they do so because they could never do it to someone face to face.

Does the magpul Ak47 furnature fit on these at all?
I bought this on a whim and haven’t followed all the sub-threads.
The wood furnature looks terrible. There is no grain visible. It looks like chunks of wood glued together and the stain doesnt take so some parts

Much, much, MUCH! earlier in one of these many T81 threads there was one of the forum sponsors who had been fitting AK type furniture to the type 81. The name escapes me right now but they showed a pic of a T81 with Magpul? forestock and pistol grip fitted. It didn't look too bad at all, I have a polymer (Fab defense) AK grip fitted to mine but have the factory T81 rail installed.

Fitting the grip was easy! Just takes a light filing of the grip to fit the profile needed. Fitting a AK forward stock looks to be possible but somewhat more complicated. The grip I installed makes the rifle WAY BETTER to hold, it's the first thing I suggest people upgrade on their guns. I will search the earlier threads to try and come up with the sponsor name that fit the AK furniture, it sounded like it was a service they were looking to implement.

Might be Hi-Cal you are thinking of.

If memory serves me correctly.

I too believe it was Hi-Cal.

Here is mine. I was one of the first to Magpul it up (I had the AK grip and handguard sitting waiting for the rifle). Requires minor to major fitting, mostly removal of material off the lower part of the handguard. You have to be creative. I didn't change anything on the rifle side of things to get it to work, aside from kind of destroying the wood on the top of the handguard getting it off. It is way more comfortable and handles much better now.

Looks nice. Ya I was wondering how people got the top wood hand guard off. Turns out you have to break it as metal around it seems to be rivited.

Could you do a close up of the top handguard and how you got it attached? AK pattern furniture is too short aint it?

You are correct in the AK furniture being too short. To make it work I cut away a bit of plastic on the bottom of the hand guard so it would sit properly, and used JB Weld to hold it in place on the gas tube cover. The front part is a small piece of black plastic, which I heated up and curved to shape, and then used a bunch more JB Weld to make everything solid.

If you were to do it in black AK furniture, it would be much easier to just paint the wooden top handguard piece black to match.

Or use a plastic SKS gas tube cover as they are longer than the T81's and could be cut down to fit.

This way one could possibly preserve the original wood T81 cover.
