TYPE 81 folding stock more pictures (DAY 6 Update "a bent rifle")

Looks like I'll be going a similar route with my folder. Did you remove the wood completely or are you doing all this with the hand guards still attached? Hopefully the other folder spare cheeks come with the missing clip that OP doesn't have.

Pulled everything apart with the exception of the upper handguard / metal piston guard

It’s worth mentioning the wood on the fixed stock is chuwood or something similar for the butt stock, while the remainding hand guards and pistol grip are beech.
I think the finish is varnish or polyurethane, as I needed several goes at it with antique stripper.
Under the finish, the wood on mine is dyed. I’m in the process of using different bleaching agents to neutralize the dies and staining of the wood.
Once complete I’m going to stain in a uniform colour and oil finish.

Will you please show pictures once finished?

We are aware of the discoloration. Ones that match the original picture will be available free of charge upon request around time of 2nd shipment arrival. Please hold requests until we have them ready to go

Mismatched? Cover it in pakitape and tacks and hit the range.

Hey guys, i ordered a folder in September.. so I’m no where near some of you for wait time. Although dissatisfied with the lighter blonde cheek rests and not wanting to go darker wood at this time I plan to do this. If there are in fact fibreglass they can be baked, so I plan to use black gun coat on them and bake it on the blonde non matching rests. I will then replace with correct ones whenever we receive new rests. I believe this will give a nice uniform look and match bluing, since the top hand guard wood is non removable I don’t want to risk the finish on metal when stripping.
