Type 81, market futures

The reason for T81 price gouging is that they are the only real military pattern semi-rifle left NR. Another one is G36 but they are 7K.

I was laughing my ass off when T81s were 1K compared to 1.2K CSA Vz58s. If Vz58 was a Harley, t81 is a moped.

It shoots fine, not very accurate, about 6MOA. Sights suck, QC is subpar. "Normal" bending of stamped receivers, which is just a sign of bad manufacturing process to me.

In normal country like Soviet Union bad AK stamping caused them to return to milled AK production until improvements in AKM model was introduced.

All that said, if people are buying them at 2.1K that's the current market price.

That's the thing, at the end of the day it's a POS Chicom gun with Chicom quality. Unless you feel there is some provenance due to the fact that slaves likely gave their lives in manufacturing them, they really aren't anything special.

For $500 I'd pick one up to play with and dump if I didn't like it. But for the "going" price, yeah, no.

I am disappointed with the people who bought them with no intention of using them. Buying it an realizing its not your thing is one thing, but to buy it with the sole intent of flipping is just greedy.

Yeah, i never did understand that behaviour. Scalpers are dumb and will get a boner for making a few bucks. Businesses should flag these a**holes in the future from pillaging stocks.

they are not junk but i will admit they are not the best quality. the quality is what you would expect from a developing country.
china is where japan use to be 40 years ago, back then we called japanese car junk and they wouldnt last and it was true, my datsun didnt last but look at them now, new nissan gtr selling for $140,000.

I would bet that there will be more of each model. Doesn't take long to build more with new surplus parts and make new receivers

Better get what you want now, prices will continue to go up, driven by supply and demand.
Take a look at the EE, not a lot out there forsale, and it's only going to get worse.

I'm still upset that a mint low km Canadian LHD Toyota HJ61 was scooped up before I could fly to the dealer in Vernon. Not all Japanese vehicles from that era are junk and this is true.

i do not know about crap or not but i know few trappers here that traded their cz vz and sks for it so seems it is working for what they are doing up here ... and all of them are using folder version you know the bent one lol ...

my son is a big fan of the toyota 4x4 offroad, he would kill for that.

from that era, i dont mean mechanically. my experience was limited to datsun cars, they were so ill prepared for our harsh winter than some cars body perforated in couple of winters from the salt. how do i know this? cos i worked for datsun the importer.

btw, i remembered pricing out parts to make up the loss in the cars, datsun couldnt sell the cars at a profit, the consumers wouldnt pay for it.

I will second that Japanese steel is very questionable. Many stories of floor boards rusting out before the engine and tranny give way.

It's funny you mentioned Datsun, I have an 83 280zx and it's been nothing but problems. Parts are scarce and expensive.

Perfect thread derail because these 81 LMG topics are getting boring.

These days Nissans are much more reliable. Toyotas are overpriced and overrated in the used market.

.

1. People who bought them to resell hoping to make a quick profit (I have not done that, ever)
While these Gypsies are free to do that, it irritates me.

2. Fickle people who just love every gun they get and claim they will never sell it. Then a month later they sell it.

According to the Calibre article on the Type 81 posted here a while back, the Type 81 may have better full auto accuracy then the AK, since it has less reciprocating mass hitting the back of the gun due to the design differences. I'd be curious if the Chinese in the eighties were focusing on a happy medium between "spray and pray" and individual targeted rounds for their average soldier, meaning they didn't have to train their regular trooper as hard as rifleperson, but as a platoon, they'd be more accurate then the average AK wielding insurgent. I don't think they intended the platform for an individual marksmen, hence its entirely possible its less accurate then an SKS. I'd be curious which would have better accuracy if five rounds were shot down the pipe rapidly to see if my supposition is true; could someone give it a try?

Only on CGN is a used gun worth more than a new gun. The Type 81 is not unique to that phenomenon on the EE (although it may win the prize for jacked up prices). At the end of the day it's a fun relatively rare AKM style gun that comes with all that one would expect from that type of platform. Like most of you, I own SKS's and a CZ858. I purchased the type 81 in 2017. In three years I have put enough rounds through it that I know by experience it's built to last, it's reliable to a fault, and although it does not have the fit and finish of my Czech wonder it definitely gets more range time (and not because the CZ858 is on the list...it just scratches the AKM itch better).

I find it strange that people are calling these utter crap... I’ve had numerous SKSs, an old Marstar imported cz858, and CSA vz58s and to be perfectly honest my Type 81 LMG is the best built out of anything commie I have owned. The wood is crisp with grain that matches, the metal machining throughout looks great (other than the metal piece to the carry handle) and the barrel looks very well made also... can’t wait to shoot it and really questioning whether I even want to sell the extra one I bought to try to use in a trade for a folder rifle model... the platform is extremely balanced and I was in disbelief when I picked it up and refused to believe that it is 10+ pounds... gotta get myself a straight folder next now lol
