Type 81, market futures

All the people calling them crap don't seem to have fired one let alone own one. I figure it's just jealousy from not getting one when available or not being able to afford one. I am also looking forward to a regular T-81 folder when available.

I bought a fixed stock type 81 when they first came in. Shot it a few times but didn't like it. Just did not seem to fit me well. Sold it for what I paid $1k. They are now about $2k so somewhat regretting this.

I then bought a Valmet M78 in 7.62 Nato that I had been chasing for many years. Finally bought it and took it to the range. Rather disappointed as it did not want to cycle or shoot accurately. I did get it sorted but for the money it was not the rifle I was hoping for which surprised me because of their fine reputation.

I used the profit from the Valmet sale to buy a Type 81 LMG. I hesitated for a few hours but then thought what the heck. There are not a lot of new reasonably(?) priced military type firearms coming into Canada any more. Trigger, sights and safety are aweful. Apart from that it is 100% reliable and shoots reasonably well - 3.5 inches at 100 yards. Its well built and finished and fun to shoot. Is it worth $1900? In one way it really does nothing that a much cheaper SKS will do. In another it is a really cool RPD style LMG and there is no real alternative.

I did not buy to sell. I do attend gunshows and occassioinaly have bought firearms to sell because they are cheap. It really pisses me off if someone buys one of my firearms, boosts the price and puts it out on their table at the same show.....I have never bought multiple new firearms with the intent of cashing in. That's a bit cheesy in my way of thinking but it is a free economy and nothing forces you to buy

they are not junk but i will admit they are not the best quality. the quality is what you would expect from a developing country.
china is where japan use to be 40 years ago, back then we called japanese car junk and they wouldnt last and it was true, my datsun didnt last but look at them now, new nissan gtr selling for $140,000.

Japanese cars weren't called junk, they were called BIODEGRADABLE.

Well it cost money to move gun from one table to another, but is not cool to mark it way up and put it out at the same show.
The whole point trading is to make a bit of money, don't always happen. The large gun stores have some strange idea that they should make some money, Novel idea ,in Canada these days.

i do not know about crap or not but i know few trappers here that traded their cz vz and sks for it so seems it is working for what they are doing up here ... and all of them are using folder version you know the bent one lol ...

That strikes me as a crazy decision. Id personally give up my Type 81sa if it meant i could once again use my VZ58 for hunting.

you mean the trappers traded their VZ for T81 before the may 1st ban?

Pretty sure Type 56 AK doesn't cost more then $1000 to produce over in China... but yet if Tactical Imports could bring them over as NR and charged $2500 I bet tons of people including me would buy them. A sub $1000 rifle being sold for thousands... does that automatically mean the Type 56 AK is junk ? maybe yes when considering the marked up price it goes for in Canada. But when compared to its MSRP it actually isnt.

no one can bring in prohibs into the country so why talk crap?

yes way before that. remember too we got boat incidents or accidents even with ice still on. more seriously they traded it before the ban and i had to find some 5 shots magazines for 1. i cant tell why but if it works for them ... it may works for others.

honestly, i cant think of a reason why trappers would switch from CSA VZ58 to T81 pre-ban other than the cost, $1000 vs $1400 new.

both dont have short mags unless modded ones and also T81 lack accessories.

acessories for? i do not know why but that is their choice not mine. the cost certainly and yes as you said t81 short magazines can be made the rest i cant tell.

Gun flippers are the worst. No sympathy from me when they get stuck holding the bag on wares nobody wants.

This reminds me of the Semin bayonet M91/30's that people snapped up in droves and then flogged on the EE for inflated prices, only to sell at a loss.

I see lots sitting on the EE with multiple bumps, little movement.

get stuck? lol.

one thing i learned about surplus, their value will always rise. i been saying that about the $190 Russian SKS a couple of years ago, look at them now.

another examples Lee Enfields were dumped here in the 60s or 70s for $25... i bought SVT for $200, 15 years ago and SKS for $99, 5 years before that.

Yup, I would hardly call owning a cool gun being "stuck". I've learned that in the long term things only go up.
