Type 81 Owners Corner !

We can all speculate, and definitely some will show up on the EE. Personally I think price will be driven by mag availability (or lack thereof) more than anything else.

Basically the earliest owners got tons and tons of mags, the last ppl to get their orders shipped will get only 2 or 3 mags with no prospect of more mags for who knows how long.

If we were awash in $29 mags, the EE price would be higher than retail if they remain scarce. Without mags... Dunno.

mod ak47 will save that rifle for that part ...

At this point I'm sticking in with the cheese grater. Might as well wait as I''ve waited since march 2016. I am simply curious as to if the cheese grater is solid or not and if a mounted optic will improve groups or not.

I read the Caliber mag review and they got a cheese grater with the rifle but never installed and tested it, a failure on their part in my opinion! They did say they had no confidence in the rail but not having tested it that's a unfair assessment.

Hope they get you taken care of quickly Donrozon but I wouldn't bet on it.

Thx yes they did received a refund notification for the cheese grater:)

My AK is long gone but I have mags. Where can I find this info??

Look at the locking of the 81 mags. You need to grind a pocket for the bolt catch on the back of the AK and then grind the front to clear the trunnion.
Should still work in an AK as none of the surfaces used for locking are effected.

With a 5 round mag.

Could cut a little less deep. I copied the 81 mag. 9mm from the top of the locking lug and ~7 wide at the bottom widening to ~9mm at the top.

Ground about 3mm off the front to about 3mm from the front rib.
Little care and measuring constantly and it locks up tighter than the factory mags.

Just brushed the gel stripper on, let stand for 20 minutes. Brush off under very hot water with hard bristle brush. Quick dry with compressed air. Repeated 4 times, then a light sanding with 320 grit.
Hope this helps.

Maybe I should strip this a give it a darker stain. I like the look of the darker wood. More like the real military rifles.

Less then 1% of the overall shipment have been defective

Where are you getting that number from? Not that I don't believe you but I'm just curious. Again by the poll conducted here on CGN it appears over 20% of the reports have been defective, the majority of issues have been found on folders though.

That’s what I am talking about. ####ty irons, and short sight radius.

Or ####ty ammo and careless shooter??

To be frank, I expect these guns to shoot like a regular AKM. And that's about what I'm seeing.

With a finer front sight blade, they will do a little better. With an optic they will do a lot better, but if anyone is expecting moa from a mass produced blaster - forget it.

Even issued C7A2's are not typically moa guns, and they will outperform the type 81.
Id have to agree,

If your using your iron sights like he is (fig. 3), you cant expect much in the way for good groups at any real distance, let alone with a rack grade semi and surplus x39. Try using a sight picture like #2, will help with the target being covered by the post

Anyone wondering how hard it is to remove the fixed stock, just put 20 rounds through the rifle in -7 weather and the pins holding the stock in place should just drift right out lol.
My experience anyways your results may vary.
The rifle was still fun to shoot even if I had to keep pushing the pins back in

Didn't had any problems at -15 with mine

I removed my stock for refinishing. The pins go in and out easily. I plan to replace them with Chicago screws.

Hmmmm, that's a new one. I'll have to check mine to see if they come out easily. I've carried it on a sling a lot and have around 100 rounds through it with no issues yet.
When I had mine side by side with the AK it looked like with a small amount of grinding an AK stock will fit, I'd like to find a nice option stock anyway so loose pins will make it easier. I was looking at the Magpul AK MOE rifle stock but it had the same length of pull as the original and I'd like a little more so passed on it.

Angle where it interfaces with the receiver is slightly different but other than that it looked like it would fit.

Weird how the 81 has about an inch of space between the trigger guard and the magwell but the AK does not.

OMG and the grip on that AK doesn't match the color of the rest of the wood... cou:

So what is the best way to measure for the "bent" issue? I think a lot of the perceived bent rifles may be due to a bit of an optical illusion.

Mine appears to be slightly off to the right with the dust cover on and a lot better with it off. Measuring shows its actually pretty straight, maybe even off to left a hair.

I'm interested in seeing some ppls method of measuring.
