Type 81 Owners Corner !

I thought I answered that one for you previously.
You can trust me--If you dont believe me, just ask me :)

Sorry, either missed the reply or forgot.
Thanks.

Take the receiver and the side mount to a professional welder and have it tig welded on. Boom.

Have to see if it could still be stripped with a permanent mount but not a bad idea. A buddy just bought a TIG, I'll give him some time to get used to using it before risking my rifle. Hopefully a slightly less permanent solution will come along shortly now that these are in the country.

If you can get hold of a flow drill bit you can extrude a deep hole then tap it, mind you flow drill bits start around 100$

Military AKM mounts just use rivets. You can buy all the stuff online - lots ok AK builders use them, the real issue is that the Type 81 receiver is stepped in profile and nobody has posted dimensions yet. It's not clear of the Type 81 receiver is wider or narrower than an AKM receiver, so we don't know where the optic would end up.

I'm confidant (after looking at my T61) that the bolt carrier clearing rivets or screws shouldn't be a problem if mounted low enough on the upper "fold" of the receiver. The main problem will be clearing the safey by grinding/milling of a part of the rail. This also depends on the style of rail one ends up with. Some are longer and fatter than others.

Here's some pics of the dimensions. Thanks for the info Claven 2:) I may just use this mount it seems to centre ok and the extrusions should clear the bolt.image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

So roughly 1.31" wide at the top and1.17" at the bottom, is that right? The photo resolution isn't great.

An AKM receiver is typically 1.35" wide with -17 thou of tolerance, so not a big difference. The t81 is slightly narrower on average if your example is representative, but within AKM tolerance.

So if youount on the upper fold, it should center ok.

The next challenge is to find a mount that will still be low enough to 1/3 cowitness with irons given having to situate the rail mount higher than you would on an AK.

My apologies for the bad resolution, you are correct with your reading of the measurements. The mount I have in the pics is off an old CZ 858 but I believe it was meant for a CSA. It is high, to high for 1/3 co witness. But it allows a clean line of sight to the irons. I'm thinking I best not jump the gun and source another mount before I find myself filling and bluing unneeded holes. Worse comes to worse I'll just laser cut and form up a custom mount to the correct height.

I was debating machining something to fit a standard AK rail, but everything is speculative until I have a rifle in hand to examine and measure.

If I attach a rail, I would prefer to rivet it on, but will need to see if there is space to properly rivet one on.

Got it to the range Saturday for the first time. It was shooting low and left.. Didn't take long to get it on the black. 35 rounds in right target. image.jpg

Front sights had to be dropped quite a bit to bring the poi up to centre. The elevation tool that comes with the rifle works great. I used a Sks front tight tool to push it to the left only needed to go about 1/8 off centre. It's not a tack driver but freaking fun!!

Mine was in my spam folder. CP delivered it on a Sunday 3 days early of tracking quote. I was surprised.
hope you all get them soon.

What did you do to make the rifle accurate?

T81 is beyond help in accuracy department.

Front post covers 8” at 50m. Just to make sure I shot rested on 2 bags at 25m, got 2 inch groups, so about 8” at 100m. Horrible iron sights overall. Worse than SKS.

On the good side, 0 malfunctions in 200 rounds shot. Bleeds heat really well. soft shooting, light rifle.
