Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

i just noticed that you placed yours bit forward than B43ma. is there a reason?

I think B43ma might have done more cutting jobs to the chassis of the Zhukov, to be able to bring the handguard closer to the receiver.

And he ended up cutting off the 2 rear M-lok slots to give more room for the handle to travel.

I want to utilize the rear M-lok slots for sling point installation. (and there's one point I wanted to use 2 45 degrees offset mount to attach a red dot near the rear sights, that looked awkward!)

So, I fitted the chassis as close to the receiver as possible, kept the integrity of the handguard, but there's the gap, then I trimmed off the LHG wood to fit.

The way I installed my handguard was effortless, and it's mounted solid, the 2 barrel clamps are really doing their jobs.

Took 81 for range visit, and clamps' screws are still tight after about 12 mags, while the Granade Launcher was burning to grab, the Zhukov Handguard was only less than warm

got back from the range with 81,

8 mags X 5rounds = 40 rounds per/cease fire X 4 reloads = 160 rounds fired.

scope mount is still rock solid.

Shot my AR between the reloads, thus the small holes

Yes i had to trim off 1/5th of the right rear side mlok slot for the BCG handle to clear, and also made a cutout for the aluminum Zhukov piece to fit right over the receiver, so that when the plastic external piece locks on, it sits on the receiver to prevent rotation or movement. It's rock solid.

Different ways of doing it. I got help from the guys at hical.ca to show me how they did theirs.

Do you mean Gweilo? This word is pronounced like guh why low. An interesting choice if that’s what you mean.

Yes lol that's exactly it. I work with a Chinese guy who called my Type 81 that before I sold it.

Now unfortunately I have sold all my type 81s and am on a hunt for another whenever Tac Imports bring more in.

Stupid keep should have never sold them

Hows everyones accuracy? Mine wasnt factory sighted ot was shooting pretty poorly until I sighted it at 25 yards. I have not taken it out to 100 yet...any tips or tricks for adjusting it or should I just leave it?

Gweilo is a Cantonese word from Hong Kong that had racial history. Today the word is used as western foreigner. Typically just for white people.

Looks good. I was considering doing the same with one of the Vz58 folders I have in my parts bin if I get tired of the fixed stock.

I decided to go with the ZHUKOV-S stock instead. Looks like it will also be easier as I won't have to make an adapter plate . I cant seem to find anyone who did this mod. Also settled on a Bakelite grip.

I love the look of AKs that have black stocks, plum grips and light coloured wood forends. Looks like 0 ####s are given, witch is right up my alley :)

He called your rifle that or you?

It's a very deragotary term by the way. Like calling a black man a #####h.

U can use an AK sight tool to make adjustments, mine was good elevation wise from the box but windage was way out. So far its seems most are getting 5moa 5 shots groups on average with their Type 81s.

Just got back from the range. Put 300 rounds of corrosive Chinese through mine. Also used newly modified Tapco and Magpul polymer magazines. Worked flawlessly and the polymer magazines worked great (albeit no bolt hold open). got 4" groups on average off the bench at 100 yards and was able to ring the 8" gong consistently at 300.
