Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Speaking of people actually shooting their Type 81s, I was very impressed with the 50 meter accuracy out of mine shooting norinco crate surplus

First group was low right, I over adjusted to the high left group, then was almost bang on for my third

your third, very impressive. which t81 is it? new red ?

Chinese brown lacquered and Soviet green lacquered surplus. Both shoot equally well. I can hit an IPSC steel plate at 300m with both irons and red dot no problem and it groups well on paper too.

First day shooting a my type 81 LMG. Off the bench I noticed the accuracy was a bit worse using the bipod. using norinco red box fmj. 3-5 MOI. Also a point of impact shift up about 8 inches with the bipod folded up and using a rest under the handguard. Groups were tighter with it folded. got some under 3 moa at 100y with barn sp and horn hand loads. Pretty sure the bipod attachment is a negative to accuracy all around. This was with my not so great eyes and stock open sights..one way to find out. Bipod coming off. :)

So I've spent the last week while waiting for my recently purchased t81 fixed to make its way through Canada post trying to figure out how to get an AKFX triangle folder onto one of these.
I've read through this thread (mostly) and I understand the best option is go somehow go from T81-->VZ58(with the Foxtrap)-->VZ58 Stock. Obviously vz58 stocks are fine to go to if you want a buffer tube/VZ58 folder.

But I'm difficult and willing to order a AKFX from brownells (because CTCS no longer carries them). As far as I can tell the Stormwerks VZ58 is the best option but this would mean:
T81-->Foxtrap adaptor-->Stormwerks adaptor-->ACE Folder mechanism-->Ace triangle stock.

Nobody is producing a T81 to AK stock adaptor anywhere out there? I don't have the rifle in my hands yet but surely there's a solution out there.
I understand a jerry-rigged Zhukov is probably the simplest, just not a huge fan of plastic.

I just ordered the Stormwerkz Stock Folding Mechanism- Standard Type and a Manticore Arms Trangle stock through a non site sponsor but it's going to involve a custom machined rear trunnion.

This is what I assumed I would have to do, machine my own interface. At the least it'll be a learning experience on the mill drill. As mentioned above I wouldn't trust 2 adaptors to hold up.

I saw a lot of beautifully refinished wood in this thread, would someone be so kind to explain the process to a complete noob in this craft? My fixed stock got a pretty nasty scratch and a dent recently, so I'll have to learn how to fix that dent and refinish the wood now.. if there's a way to match this red special edition color that would be great to know, otherwise I'll just have to redo the handguards as well, I guess. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
