Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I agree. And yes, I bought the adapters from foxstrap. If you Google them you should find the adapter.

Thanks for the confirmation! Foxstrap's site says the adapter was designed for the LMG, but they don't see why it wouldn't work on the fixed tock rifle, which you seemed to have confirmed. I've read the LMG and fixed stock rifle have different angles on their rear trunnions. Did you have to perform any modifications to the adapter for it to work with the fixed stock rifle?

I noticed no difference at all between the LMG and rifle stock attachment points.

Excellent! Would you mind if I post your pictures in Reddit, referencing your CGN handle, and the send the link to Foxstrap so they can update their listing?

YouTuber GNutzGuy has posted a video showing how his various VZ58 stocks work installed on his Type 81s, again using the Foxstrap adapter. He customized the install a bit, using the top set screws but drilling through the adapter on the bottom and installing a bolt.

It appears the pin location is different between the LMG and the rifle, so the an adapter drilled out for one version may not work for the other (which is why they don't come pre-drilled to begin with, given the variability even in production runs), and this likely means an LMG stock may not work in the rifle fixed version, though it will depend on where the pin holes in the receiver are on each.

where do you find vz58 foldable stock in canada. interested in one mod for an lmg.

Be prepared to spend big $$$$ for that if you can find one. Occasionally on the equipment exchange. Zahal used to have them, out of stock for a long time. You could always wait and hope for one on a US auction and get it imported by IRUNGUNS by that's also going to cost extra. It looks like certain US sites have them in stock but they explicitly say no exports, I'm not sure if IRUNGUNS would be willing to talk to them and have them sell to IR in the US, then have them do the paperwork for you. ITAR is a massive pain in the ass.
Alternatively you can go down the rabbit hole of european surplus sites and try to find one, Canada has no import laws regarding gunparts aside from receivers, magazines, and prohib parts, and I doubt eastern european countries have something like ITAR.

How much are the vz folders going for? I think I have one kicking around.

There are thousands of them in Canada - lots of guys (like me) swapped them for better stocks. I can't imagine they are worth much. Heck, I gave a couple of them away over the years and used a couple more for WK180 projects.

That being said, I've got a WTB ad on the EE for a fixed or folder Vz stock for a project with no responses whatsoever, so who knows. If people aren't selling them, supply and demand will dictate the price.

I’d be willing to bet you couldn’t find them for under 200. Last time I saw one physically in a shop they wanted $250, and that was a while ago. That Czech site looks pretty comprehensive but I’m sure the shipping price would sting.

$150 or maybe even more.

Holy crap, if you guys are right, I regret using my extras on WKs and subsequently selling them! I was thinking 40 or 50 bucks. Wish I had kept the ones I gave away...
