Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Original looks much better. I wonder what the price point will be, anything over $300 will be dead in it's track, just my opinion. Have you ever seen an AK with something edgy like that? I am also wondering what TNA is doing with their AK safety or the guy above me with his scope mount? Nothing in that scope mount department available. Oh yeah, you can mount a red dot on this, okay sure, have fun.

And then this selling to buddies and friends first thing, tsk tsk. People are getting excited and you stop them dead in the track. Not a very good marketing strategy. I am pretty confident that there won't be a second run.

The top rail looks okay, the bottom not so.

There is a reason why most manufacturers are going the polymer route. Just ordered a FAB defense stock for my Chinese SKS. Price, yes $200.

Pretty sure I will get a lot of negative response to my posts, so be it.

The nerve of someone to use their own time, abilities, money and resources to come up with a solution to problems specific to our very small Canadian firearms community. Also, how dare they reach out to those who expressed interest at the ground floor of this project. We should all admonish them and refuse to buy their product.

If you think it wont work, don't buy it and move on.

Facts. Thanks Gyroscope for your efforts. I will enjoy my handguards.

i disagree, oem HG looking better doesnt translate to working better, it doesnt. i do agree about the price point and the edges.

now, about '"spoken for". welcome to the real world, be the first to stand inline on the first day of public offering of condos last year in any major cities. you'll find that a bunch has "sold" signs on them already. i kid you not.

I don't think he will do it for free.

Appreciate the effort, however some input from the community would have been better. I think it looks too edgy but people seem to thirst for anything in aftermarket parts for the type 81 at this point. Looks like a quality product.

Negativity? Enough yeah sayers already in this world and time.

Wow someone is on PMS............how is this Edgy? Looks perfectly fine to me if not a bit too conventional on the lower handguard, would like to see a bit more weight reduce cuts. And as for Price, I paid average 350 for handguard for most of my rifles so as long as it is under 350 it will be quite popular. Again, thanks for developing such great option for such a small community!

Anything of value to say?

maybe if you asked him nicely he would put one aside for you. you catch alot more flies with honey

Why? I don't like it.

foxstrap website is defunct, they use to make 3d printed adapters... two types, one for AR and one for vz58.

aluminum would be great.

I would like to think each shipment TI made brought in a 1000 rifles... and theyve brought in what, 5 shipments now ? This is just my guess anyways. I never reached out to TI to see what the potential market was.

Although the Magpul Zhukov stock may be readily modified to fit the Type 81, an adapter to use it and other AK stocks un-modified may be useful. Although not as plentiful as VZ stocks, AK and AK airsoft stocks may be a useful option for the Type 81.

Can you make a pic mount that fits the stock TI tapped screws? I also want to buy a stock adapter

Piggybacking off this guy's idea. Wouldn't it be great to manufacture the plate + the threaded pins. Unless there is legal issues, it would be insane.

I know atleast 3 people personally that'd buy the mount and screws.

I'm currently waiting for one in the mail, once I receive it, I could provide dimensions.

Ps: wait to see if tactical imports does another run of those.

Great to see some progress on T81 support here, thanks for your work Gyro! Was hoping someone would make an adapter so we could use folding AK stocks but I'll survive with these!
