Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

here is real reason why they put a bar on their rear sight
After using Ak for a couple decades, Chinese soldier complain the surface of rear sight leaf polished due to carrying rifle, which light reflection hurt consistency. In addition, u can use rear sight as a quick peep sight in close range. Chinese soldier seems really like this rear sight.

^^^ Once you get used to it, it is ok. For protection of the rear sight it makes sense, and as a quick and dirty "peep" sight for up close it would work.

I recall reading that some used the sight protector ears on the SMLE the same way, put your target between them and within 50m you were assured to hit. I can see some operators getting a lot of practice and becoming quite quick at this type of target acquisition.

People who complain about the T-bar sight are a bunch of primadonnas. Honestly, I didn;t even notice it being there after 1 magazine of shooting. It tends to blend it with the top of the front globe.

On an AK with an open-top globe, I could maybe see it being distracting, but not on a T81.

I don't care what the top bar was for, my eyes didn't like it and I wasn't going to try to get used to something I have no use for. If my sights get polished and shiny I'll either cold blue them or put on a fresh coat of flat black enamel.
I'm never going to shoot grenades and the more field of view I have the better in my opinion. I don't regret cutting it off at all.
That's the beauty of having a cheap beater, I can cut and grind it all I want till it fits me the way I want and I don't care about resale value.

I wish I still had a pic of my first SKS, you would be disgusted with what I did to that one. Hacksaw and some alcohol and it had a new integrated muzzle brake, lol.

Anyone remember where in all these posts there are pics of the bolt carrier or bolt mushrooming? Swore I saw pics somewhere.

Had mine out today for another 100ish rounds on a buddy's private range, let a couple friends play and all were smiling. I was able to fluke off a couple hits on the 200 yard gong and even got lucky and hit the plate at 300 once. Fun factor was high today, used the real rifles (couple Cadex, couple Modern Hunters, a Modern Varmint, my Magnum Research 22 mag, and an XCR-m) to blow 10 pounds of Tannerite but everyone liked the T81.
Unfortunately we were having too much fun to remember to take some pics, was quite the collection of rifles lined up between the three of us.
Once again the T81 ran flawlessly and it was more popular than the SKS that was there.

I have never understood the desire to scope Chicom/Soviet bloc rifles. All of the mounting solutions suck donkey balls worse than their sh!tty scopes. Even their purpose built sniping systems that are designed from the get-go with scopes in mind blow goats.
Anyhow, that looks like a fun project Vlad, sorry for p!ssing in your soup.:(

We managed to get some time to modify & play around with a T81, so here it is: Hogue AK grip, a modified Zhukov AK forend, Hical slotted handguard, Modified Magpul AK mags. We will tinker some more, but here is what we have come up with so far.....We will modify our AK mags for you or send yours to us to modify. Let us know what you think!

How hard is it to remove that handguard? I shoot corrosive so I need to clean it regularly and don't want to have to do more work even though that looks good.
