Removed my wood furniture for refinishing. Just having a look at this vz58 undefolder. If I make a block that will work I think this will look ok. Triangle side folder won’t work without extensive modifications.
Has anyone with a folder removed it yet? I’d love to see pics of the receiver inside and out with stock removed.

Geez if someone really wants to go full bubba on an 81.. I think the under folder and AK grip as shown above plus removal of the grenade launcher and front sight replaced with a AK style front sight would be amazing to see. Then the next logical steps would be to make AK wood fit the hand guard and an AK style safety conversion.

Hahahaha I’ve already been thinking about the front sight idea. Thread the barrel for muzzle devices maybe. I don’t know. Right now I’m not doing anything permanent only because I might hate it. Well except the furniture it’s being refinished to a more red color.
AK safety might be doable. Removing the safety is easy can’t wait for something better to be made.

If you look at all folders, the underfolders go through the rear trunion and receiver flats, it's not bolted onto the back of the receiver.

You could probably rived in a machined insert and install the underfolder using the usual AK method.

yeah, but I mean you could make an insert that fits under the current fixed stock rear trunion, rivel it into place, and machine throughthe receiver and trunion to do a proper AK-type install of the underfolding stock like this:

Really enjoying the new addition to my 7.62 collection...

1 Question: I have a bit of a gap between the left side of my dust cover and receiver. Does anyone else's cover fit this way as well?

2. Question: The top of my bottom handguard doesn't seem to be sealed/finished like the rest of the furniture. Anyone else notice this?

Anyhow I'd have to make up a complaint. This is a fun rifle to own.

They all have a gap, but my rifles gap is smaller than yours. I expect they vary,. It was probably relieved by grinding by hand when it was made.

Oh yes I see what you meant. Not sure I really like the underfolder that much.lol they’re not very comfortable. But I think that is doable. Lots of room inside the receiver

It'd be purely for novelty as the folding stock T81 is hard to beat. It's quite honestly a perfect folder as is. Sure would be awesome to see someone use a T81 to make a T56 folder clone.

Yes agreed. I just had my buttstock removed so I got to thinking I should see what I have here that I could make fit. Lol. I’ll be going back to my fixed stock once it’s been refinished. Maybe I should buy t81 folder and do the t56 clone that would be sweet.

You buy yours used? I heard more than one person say they "had to" dremel their dust cover to get it back on...that looks like maybe it took more than 3 passes to get a straight line...my dust cover sits much tighter than that, although on mine the bottom-most edge of the cover is level with the bottom of the letters that say "semi auto" and above the serial number...tour's sits above that, if it sat like that, the gap above the trunion would be significantly smaller...

As for the handguard, my edges are un-coated as well...

Mine is not used and it comes on and off with ease. Just curious if other covers have the same fit... thanks for sharing!

here's a visual of mine... Sorry it's upside down, my phone took it upside down, I rotated it up right in my gallery, but then when I uploaded it to tinypic it stayed upside down.
