AK/AKM lowers are about 16cm and the standard t81 lower is 17cm. A vz58 lower hg will fit a T81 I'm told.
223 conversion is very time consuming and involves bolt face and magwell rework to accept 223 mags, but not impossible. Cheers

Talked to Bryan at foxstrap - they have the alloy 910 ones back in stock. Alloy 910 is much tougher than TPU, so if anyone is interested, now is the time to order.

Im thinking of putting a vz 58 polymer handguard to replace the wood on the top handguard gas tube. According to this gnutzguy video you have to drill out the three rivets holding the handguard retainer in place. However he doesn't show how he riveted it back together. Would it be difficult to rivet it back together, or should I use little screws and bolts instead? The holes are tiny, like 1.5mm diameter. Ive seen some pics of type 81s with the vz 58 polymer lower handguard, but not the upper handguard

Little domed pop rivets would do the trick easily. You'd just have to get a poprivet gun (or the manlier hand cranker thing) and appropriate rivets. I'm thinking anything with a 5mm shank length would be about right. You're most likely to find them in the white, so you'd also have to paint them black (I think Gnutzguy even said something along those lines in the video).
Or find someone with the equipment and knowhow to install some solid crush rivets. It's true that the rivets on the top handguard are small, so pop rivets that size might be hard to find (might have to find 'micro' pop rivets). It's a possibility anyway. Just don't use bolts and nuts, that'd be fugly.
Yeah I thought the top handguard might be too short. I guess maybe I could get an upper handguard from an SKS polymer chassis and fit it, I dont know where I can get just the upper handguard though, without buying a whole new chassis. I dont think there's a way to lengthen the vz 58 upper handguard which sucks

Has anyone tried removing the front sight block on the LMG? Would there be any interferences in moving it back enough to chop the barrel at 18.6" and then threading the muzzle? (No bipod or carry handle)
