Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

Holy crap, if you guys are right, I regret using my extras on WKs and subsequently selling them! I was thinking 40 or 50 bucks. Wish I had kept the ones I gave away...

they are right. some czech dealers now refuses to sell to canada.

btw, the currency exchange is e$125= c$181 plus ship.

its worth noting that these ones are used, not refurbish and no screw compared to the vz58rifle.com e$125.

the side folders can be quite wobbly. however dlask has alots of spare parts including them screws.

I ordered one from Euro Military, I have a tracking number for it already and I'll let everyone know how it is once I get it.

I just checked and the folding stocks on vz58rifle.com don't come with the screw either, it says so in the description. I believe the foxstrap stock adapter comes with the mounting screw anyways, correct me if I am wrong.

Those folding stocks were so unpopular in the day, lol.

On another note, I just found a Chinese SKS stock I gave to a friend to let his his kids play with it. That was years ago. Just saw it the other day when they moved - what a beauty compared to the newly imported garbage, lol.

So I finally got the grenade tube removed, as well as the front sight base off. Note to anyone wanting to do this, I tried punches, drift punches, a hydraulic press with a punch block, and spent a good 8 hours at least on these pins. Finally had to take it to the drill mill and managed to drill one pin out cleanly. Even with a hole through the one pin it took another go with the drift punches to get it out, at least on my rifle it looks like they peened the pin on both ends. The other one wouldn’t move and I broke 3 bits trying to get it going, finally just had to use a very small end mill to cut into the FSB. Sacrilege I know but I’m sourcing an AK74/103 FSB with brake to attach to the front. I’ll have to upload some pics but honestly, it is an amazing amount of work to remove the FSB unless yours come out cleanly with a good punch and base.

There are a couple folks who moved it around and it seemed to go okay - sounds like a gong show. Hard to count on repeatability with this rifle, just the way of the road I guess.

Anyone interested in posting some of their bubba'd t81 mounts? I'm trying to do my own but can't settle on whether to buy the SVD style plate/mount and place on the upper portion of the receiver or to buy the AK plate/mount and place as low as possible.

Going with the AK side rail / reciever position will definitely be the most diverse setup when it comes to optic choices. AK optics can be scopes, prisms and red dots. The con to using AK setups tho is that on slim bodied guns like SKS rifles and VZ58s they tend to sit ridiculously high. This however can often be compensated for by buying an SVD mount and installing that onto the AK optic. The SVD mount will not slide onto an AK rail tho.

An SVD side rail and mounting position will mainly limit u to scopes and it is more tailored for this. Depending on the rail design u can still mount AK optics. But they will sit relatively high on the gun.

The mount on my Type 81s is a hybrid that i designed. It splits the difference in terms on optic height so one can enjoy both options with a slight sacrifice to the tailored heights. Basically SVD optics will sit slightly lower then normal, and AK optics will sit slightly higher. But this allows me to swap scopes easily between all my red rifles.

The Type 81 rifle is sporting a universal mount BelOMO PK-A. Which sits beautifully on the gun.

The middle LMG which is soon going to be built into a half a$$ Tabuk Sniper is sporting a SVD mount NPZ PO 4x24mm. Which sits as low as physically possible. Yielding a superb cheek weld when i install a SVD cheek pad.

The other LMG is sporting a Universal mount NPZ 1p76 Rakurs 1x prism. Russian industry labels this as a universal but IMO they are not. They will only fit rails that have a central cam slot. Which to be fair AKs and SVDs do have. But be warned rails like the Ti one and what are commonly found on VZ58s will not support this mount. Plus it sits ridiculously high on SVDs. So IMO it should be considered an AK mount. Currently it sits slightly high on my Type 81. But is still very pleasant to look thru.

This is how tailored an SVD optic will sit on guns like my SKS or VZ58.... an AK optic would just look silly.
