Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I want to convert my non OR t81 into an OR t81, anyone know of any threaded pin kits or have dimensions so I can manufacture my own?

I cannot for the life of me get the TI supplied optic mount on the 2x threaded pins to secure or hold zero. I have loctited and attempted to torque but no dice. Anyone else have this issue?

Degrease and red loctite.. worked for me for both TI and 3D rails

A couple of people on Reddit suggested they were uninterested in the SigmaCo AR buffer tube/pistol grip adapter for the SR, but they might be interested in a 1913 stock/AR pistol grip adapter. There hasn't been the take on the buffer tube adapter that was expected, so Sigma is hesitant to make a 1913 variant. Would there be interest in that, or are most people content to wait for the fixed version of TI's wooden stock? For reference, here's a build of an LMG using the SigmaCo 1913 adapter and a Midwest Industries Alpha 1913 "Zenicoish" stock with adjustable height, length of pull and folding, https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/comments/13xyd34/am_i_too_late_for_the_type_81_posting_party/

What kind of optic base and mount do you have? That's a factory folder, right?

It’s an ak base I got from Carolina shooting supply I drilled and tapped then put internal nuts for extra support , the mount is armacon which is a Russian copy of rs regulate mount. It’s set up for aimpoints

For those who can't get an optic rail, can't afford or don't want a full fore-end replacement, or want a readily removable red dot mount that still allows use of the iron sights, the rear sight block mounted red dot mount is now available on a Made to Order basis from mcwistle.com.

They also have an XL mag release available, for those looking for a Type 81 specific, made in Canada wider, longer, and more curved mag release for easier reloading.

Mcwistle.com has updated their site with additional product pictures, and added 1913/Picatinny rail that slides onto their reversible above iron site red dot mount. This would allow use of a 1913 mount red dot or long eye-relief scope (for those with astigmatism who can't use red dots) for those who can't get or don't want a side rail scope mount, and/or don't want to change their fore-end. Very suitable for those who want a basic optic but want to maintain the com-bloc aesthetic of the firearm.

Sorry for the gigantic photo, I couldnt resize it more without it looking weird

I think the wood is quite stressed around the pin holes regardless of further stock bracing. Noticed on mine the receiver walls are swelled where the pins were drived thru indicating some level of severe interference. Mine hasn't cracked yet and i do have a long SS screw bracing it. But despite that i do expect to someday see a crack there. Will that effect the retention of the stock to the gun? I doubt it since i figure the SS screw is taking most of the load. Nonetheless appearently the gen2 stocks are not too far out so hopefully it all becomes a non issue for most in the near future.

I think a big part of it is in my case is that the pins were at most a 1/8th from the edge and already had a stress crack , ripped out and folded the first time i racked the bolt
