Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I suspect this has less to do with function than Admin Results vaunted "aesthetics"; the muzzle device comes in the gun-metal grey the firearm owner was seeking; I suspect the Sigmaco Canada muzzle device adapter sleeve will be re-finished to match as soon as the owner is able. The firearm would well match our downtown Edmonton public library for a photo shoot; pity the firearm owner would be shot by cops from the nearbye station if they made a photo shoot attempt :p

Fixed it…

Seriously now…. Yes, it’s aesthetics oven function. Reminds me of the SKS that is pretty much perfectly functional in factory form yet people desire to “improve” it with zero benefit… just aesthetics. I suppose many people think they are “smarter” than Simonov.

Well Simonov was pretty smart but he wasn't clairvoyant, he designed a rifle for the requirements of the Soviet Army during WW2; he actually died pretty old at 92 in 1986 and he designed many other less-successful weapons but that still followed the trends and requirements of the time

if he was still alive today the rifle he would design would probably look like that mythical "Unicorn SKS" just like every modern AK design has MLOK, ajustable stocks and 1913 rails galore.

That SKS-74 is amazing
I would love to build one

Say someone has an LMG and a messed up crooked Folder donor rifle, would it be possible to graft the folding trunion onto the LMG without having to modify the LMG's receiver or the folder rear trunnion?

Picked up one of the sigmaco m14x1 barrel sleeves to replace the grenade sleeve. M14x1 happens to be what the FAL flash hiders are so I figured why not, can mount my C1 bayonet on my 81 now.

No freaking way that is so awesome! The new LMGs have a M14 thread, right? I have a C1 bayonet laying around and this would be freaking amazing.

Is anyone tracking if there are real type 81 bayonets in Canada at all?

There are a plethora of replicas (that are produced for the Chinese domestic market) that get passed off as real (literally every bayonet I have seen posted to this forum, including the ones sold by various retailers around 2022ish).

Honestly at this point I don't think there are any real T81 bayonets in country at all, just people who think they have the real thing.

-Gen 1 Sigmaco lower handguard, factory upper handguard trimmed to fit because I hate having to unscrew anything to clean a gun
-HL-X mounted to some kind of cantilever MLok mount, tape switch just velcro'd to the upper guard
-Sigmaco ambi 90 safety
-Handstop made by I don't remember who, otherwise I was subconsciously indexing off the front of the handguard and it gets hawt in a hurry
-TI Hera rail that came with their Kobras for the time being until either Sigmaco restocks, or someone else makes a side rail that clears a left sided safety
-Aimpoint Pro on a Scalarworks
-AK Master Mount forward bias rail, most of the casings would cleanly eject but enough would bounce back in and induce a stoppage so out came the ol' 4.5" deathwheel. No stoppages since.

Pretty interested in the rumours of TI’s new underfolder batch. Seems like back in 1989, some of the samples that Norinco exported to the US were underfolders, proving that there is/was the tooling to make these. IMG_6975.jpgIMG_6974.jpeg

When did there start to be rumours of a run of under folders?

I went through some effort to get to the bottom of this.
It's goes back to one guy on reddit who claimed his dealer told him tactical imports is bringing in a run of 100k rifles imminently.

For what it's worth Tactical Inports has said as recently as this week that they're working on bringing in another run of rifles, but they have said nothing about underfolders and have no ETA.

100k like 100000 type 81 rifles. While that would be great I find it hard to believe there would be a market for so many in canada
