All I see are Tyoe 81 threads!!! What about it's look alike (BUT NOT FUNCTIONALLY ALIKE!!!) the AK47

No one here has even touched one. Or less than ten have. Maybe when they get here it can be compared side by side with a valmet m78 and a Vz58 and an SKS.

It's a different gun all its own.

There is an article posted in another type 81 thread that says the 81 is heavier than a stamped ak, but lighter than a milled ak and more accurate than ak in general.

So ak being better is debatable. We will have to wait and see.

And 308 milled valmets can be had for less than 3500 if you look.

Its more or less an ak sks hybrid taking the manuverability of the ak and the accuracy of the sks. The reciever is supposed to be even thicker than a stamped t56

Why? I would take a VZ58 over an AK any day and would most likely take a Type 81 over an AK.

They really aren't anything special. They just have appeal because you can't own one.

The VZ-58 is everything the AK should have been...

The Chinese were using the AK, and switched to the Type 81, so clearly there was a reason.

VZ-58 and Type 81 are superior to the AK platform IMO. Bolt hold open, way better sights, better ergonomics, milled receiver for the VZ and more accurate.

Only way they loose is for price. AK is cheaper to make.

These type 81's are interesting, a mash up of AK\sks. I'd like to get my hands on one when they get here and try one out. I'm liking the mag release on the type 81, sks mag release is kind of frustrating.

That's because the sks wasn't meant to have a mag release. Think of it more like the lee enfield mag release, of Ljungman AG-42.. You weren't supposed to use it, other than for cleaning.
