Type 81 vs AK47

You would be surprised. Check out the real AK-47 torture tests... With real vintage FA AK's... They failed the mud tests miserably. The AR-15 was far superior in the mud and sand tests.

AK is ok for abuse and lack of cleaning... AR failed that test, M14 sucks in all aspects, MAS 49/56 did way better than everyone thought, and VZ-58 was about the same as AK, maybe a little worse because of exposed bolt.

The truth would explode the Internet... lol

Are you referring to the video they did with a parts kit Romanian AK?

Hehe.

Hehehehheheh.

Hahahahahahahhahahha.

Hmm, I've owned couple of AK's (56 and 84) - and carried one in the bush, with a full 30 rounder. I've owned a Vz (it was restricted). I've owned at least 4 SKS's and used them both on and off ranges. This means I'll probably have a T81, for a few of reasons - it's relatively rare, it looks good to me, it might remind me of thumping around the hills with an AK, and it positively WILL make the antis crap themselves. As far as it being a good gun? I hope so, but either way I won't know until I play with it for a while. The only way that'll happen is if I buy one.

Bendeco only wants/cares what interests him.
That deliberate short sightedness causes him to forgoe seeing the big picture regarding this firearms journey, approval and soon to be availability to Canadian shooting enthusiasts. This is good for ALL Canuck gun owners...

Much like how the duck gun guys slam ARs. they don't like them or want to own them so they deem them inferior and unnecessary. What are those types of gun owners referred to as again...? ;)

ill take a CSA VZ over an AK if they were available from reading accuracy reviews. VZ if i'm correct also has a faster rate of fire then the AK from the US review I seen comparing them. VZ is growing in populatity in the US and the forms are littered with VZ recommendations over AK's. Its come down to a matter of preference. Ill take a t81 either way when and if they get here and also keep my vz.

Or how "Serious Hunters" will highjack entire threads to pontificate endlessly on how an SKS isn't accurate or powerful enough to use as a bush gun for deer.

I was down to two last "must have" modern rifles to buy (hopefully this year, school fees and dental bills depending) before going back to devoting my boomstick budget to WWII vintage bolt guns. Now this thing comes along and...

Dangit... Gotta have it. Especially gotta have it and take it deer hunting, just to cause aneurysms among the purest "You can't hunt anything larger than a rabbit with anything less than 30-06" crowd.

I think there would be a HUGE outpouring of AR purchases if they were no longer restricted and many of those buyers would surprise you. I don't think true FUDDism is as prevalent as many think.

Do you see a lot of 18.5 inch and longer ARs on the market? Hard for there to be an it pouring when most AR on the market would continue to be restricted by barrel length alone.

Does the Canadian army use Chinese rifles? Why would I?

We don't use Chinese rifles because there are contracts and protocols in place ensuring that almost all kit used by the CF (where feasible) must be made in Canada and purchased by the government in Canada. From uniforms to Ration packs to the C7/C8's we use. Anything we need/use that can be readily made in Canada must be, even if it's more cost efficient and better product to buy/get made in a foreign country.

Norinco is hit and miss depending on the firearm origin.
Seems like they skimp out big time when it comes to producing rifles that are copies intended solely for civilian/North American or European commercial markets.
The only bad experience I ever had with them personally of all the Norc guns I've owned and handled and shot over the years was a very finicky Norinco JW14. The terrible clone of the amazing Squires and Bingham model 20!
It was problems from the start for me brand new out of the box just nothing but issues and I have sorted out many a firearms small kinks and got them to run smooth. Could not get it to work at all. Trigger would stick and not reset even after dissaembly and cleaning (it was a badly machined sear mechanism), FTE, FTF etc etc Cheap plastic magazines falling apart in the mag well. And it cost the same as an actual Squires and Bingham M20 off the EE which are amazing rifles.

Any Norinco firearm that was manufactued with intended immediate or even remotely possible PLA use (think M14, Type 54 (TT33 clone), SKS, type 81, the old Norc 1911's are amazing) which we have all seen in Canada are usually very well made with nothing but surface fixes required to get them 100% flawless. I'm sure the T81 will be just as good in quality as any Norc PLA SKS or even M14, it's just going to cost a lot more.
YOu can't paint all Norinco products with the same brush Sir.
The same application of manufacture and quality control seems to get dodgey at best when you get into the Norinco clones of firearms copied from sporting/hunting rifles and shotgun though lol

When I read those comments I always wish those hunters had let me know how useless and impractical an SKS is for hunting sooner. I wouldn't have cleanly taken all those deer with a SKS if I had known it wasn't up for the task.

I don't buy junk.

Reminds me of a time two years ago when I was at my local range sitting next to a guy who had his brand new $3,000 US made AR-15 he purchased for 3-gun. It was jamming after every few rounds with both STANAG and LAR-15 magazines. After 50 rounds his bolt release broke clean off. Fixed the jamming problem for the most part, hahaha.

I fired 400 rounds through my Norinco CQ-A that day. I never did have a malfunction with that rifle.

Good times.

If the ARs were non-restricted in Canada, the bbl length would increase for field use.

Well said.

The same kind of people who make blanket statements that all things Chinse are junk usually are the same people who harp about how China is a threat militarily. By their own logic we should sleep better knowing if the west ever face the PLA in armed conflict Chinese militaries equipment will just fall to pieces by itself.

I would like a type 81 because it's a piece of deployed military grade equipment, just like the San, sks, cz858, etc. What I'm waiting to see is if they would do an export hack job in making it semi only. Which is what disappointed me about the t97. But at least it will be original caliber so perhaps the mags and feeding should be fine.
