Still no pictures or reviews from owners.... show off your rifle!
Two things:
1) I would REALLY like to see some reviews of this.
... I hate getting involved in discussions like this, so I won't reply again in this thread, but I will just address that one point. I think that the Name should have nothing to do with it.
Kel-tec was known for pretty crappy guns, but when the RFB came out, well everyone gobbled it up. (Crappy, based on reviews I read in forums in the states before the RFB came out)
Ford used to be an utter pile of sh!t. Now look at Ford - wonderful cars (have you sat in the brand new Taurus SHO? I had a chance at a local car show...amazing vehicle). Same with Chrysler. I now prefer the new Chrysler's to Toyota etc.
If a company has the opportunity to make a product that is on par with other manufacturers high end products, there is no reason it has to deeply discount it, because of a name.
NOW....on the other hand...for $3K, I would have expected a better scope..I mean 3-9X40? I have a 4-16X56 bushnell on my rifle that didn't cost too much...they could have improved THAT much...
So yes and no. If the product is on par with high end expectations, then the name should have no bearing..... I mean the Norc 1911's are solid guns, as are a lot of their other offering (m14, etc).
The price COULD be a little less for what it is though... but i wouldn't use name as the only point making worth that, or not. That's a very American thing to do (You know... "Them damn Chinese don't make nuttin' as good as us boys over here! WOOT! AMERICA!" )
Also..if the communists do two things right, its instill fear and oppression, and make great weapons! haha (Ak-47 anyone?)
Anyway, that's how I see it. Off to clean my room![]()
Norinco is an export company. They do no manufacturing. Multiple manufacturers in China, this is made by Chinese State Arsenals for the Chinese military. You won't see the Chinese Military using $99 Tokarev knock-offs, the difference in quality between commercial grade and modern military grade is night and day.
In testing we found the Type 88 Sniper to shoot better than the Swiss Arms; which kind of goes against all conventional forms of thinking
Kinda necroposting, but I am interested in grabbing one of these in the next potential shipment.
The one thing I am concerned about is whether the rifle is accurate. I would be very unhappy if it shot worse than 1-2 MOA, at least 1.5.
If there is any reports or if Tactical Imports can let us know how it shoots, besides "we found the Type 88 Sniper to shoot better than the Swiss Arms", because that doesn't explicitly say how accurate it is, just that it "shoots better".
The Type 88 was shooting 1-1.5 MOA with non-match 60's gr. ammo (multiple brands), 5 rnd groups off bipod. We found the rifle to be much more consistant than the Swiss Arms. While the Swiss Arms was able to pull off groups around the same size, those groups were not all in the same place.
I would suggest to you that your expectations would/should be linked to what type of ammo you will be using. you won't get that in any rifle with cheap ammo.
Do you plan on bringing in more Type 88s?
Any idea on expected dates?
I would love to get one but need to learn how to play guitar first in order to panhandle in front of my local liquor store.

I understand that the accuracy is dependent on ammo, but some weapons are more accurate than others, even if they have the same calibre in common.
I've heard things about the QBU-88/Type 88 shooting amazingly, and some of it shooting 4.5 MOA (although I'm sure that was someone who doesn't like the rifle purely because it is Chinese).
I have been working on my accuracy for the past year and let me start by saying I have a long way to go. I can get my groups down to 2.5MOA on a semi consistent basis with basic factory ammo (Win, Rem, AE or Norinco) all 55gr. Though on some special days I've managed 1.5MOA, all groups are based on 5 rounds at 100m. The biggest problem I'm running into is my shooting style, I tend to tense up too much and anticipate the shot. Classic example, i started with an group MOA of 5-6 and am now down to 2.5, lent it to another shooter who immediately put 5 rounds in 2" at 100m.
My best guess is the rifle is capable of 1.5MOA in the right hands with basic ammo and my hit 1 MOA with target ammo and possibly by shutting off the gas return. This will turn you semi-auto into a pseudo bolt action. Considering it's a Designated Marksman Rifle and designed to hit man sized (12") targets at 800m that makes it necessary to be an 1.25 MOA rifle, I think it can make it. It will be fin to find out.
I will post another range report later this summer after some more practice and extending my range to 400m, the scope is marked to 800.
Have you tried heavier 60gr+ ammo with it? Buy a box of some match stuff and try that if you are willing. I really want to get this rifle, but it's more money than I'll be making this summer (College kid), so I can't pick one up this year sadly. Maybe Tactical Imports would be willing to let me finance a new gun, heh. Otherwise, maybe someone on here is willing to sell theirs.
Sorry if I expect reasonable prices and refuse being taken advantage of
Dealers should learn economies of scale selling bulk volume not a handfull of items at high margins. They are not doing us any favors when they do that.
The dealers must learn from our neighbors to the south
Don't like it, move on?
