Type 97 Waiting thread

I would assume if the CFC reclassifies them as prohib, that CanAm will refund us.

But... let's NOT GO THERE.

Let's keep this thread clear for CanAm to post when they get back from Israel.

They did not send one to the RCMP, CBSA sent one to the RCMP.

Can canam or there legal council come forward and tell everyone what the problem is ?
What's the big secret ? Tell us straight up why we have to wait .There is a problem or else i would have it in my hand. I want to know and be informed .I do'nt want to know when , i want to know what (what's the problem ) staight up .

No one can give you an answer because no one has an answer to give!

The T-97's did not get into Canada Customs hands till a few days AFTER the 26th of January.

Customs has 30 days in which to poo or get off of the pot. That would put them sometime late next week before they actually hit that deadline. Until then, does no good to tear your hair out, you'll only get bald.

The owner of CanAm is out of the country and is returning this weekend. He has mucho dollars tied up in this shipment and I can only surmise that his cash flow is pinching. He wants these rifles more than you or I do.

I am sure that he will be all over this issue come Monday morning. I would suggest that all wait until at least Friday of next week before getting out the tar and feathers. For all we know, customs could release the entire shipment next Thursady afternoon at 3:30PM and phone CanAm to come and get their stuff out of the warehouse.

We do not know and harassing CanAm for an answer won't get you anywhere.

I spoke to Mark at CanAm this evening, he filled me in on everything I have posted here. There is no conspiracy, customs is not threatening to "prohibit" these rifles. The RCMP and not trying to reclassify them to "restricted" of give them a 12-5 class.

The honest truth is they don't know anything and probably won't until next week. We've been waiting since last summer, what's another few days?

Every day while Chris (CanAm boss) was away on business, he would call the store for an update on the T-97's, he really wants this resolved too. I don't want to speak for Chris but I believe it will be his priority once he returns home. Lets give him a chance to unpack his suitcase. ;)

Mossmans quote was speclutive but still scary! that would be my guess.

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. We inadvertantly supply the anti's with ammo to use against us.

By us oposting what if's and such, we may provide them with the grounds to "prohibit" these rifles, however stupid, unjust, unfair that may be.

The ball is in "their" court. Let's see how they return the ball before we get all bent out of shape. Won't we have expended a lot of bandwidth if next Wednesday morning customs releases the whole shipment to CanAm?

Let customs take the next step, then we can react accordingly. I think the English version is "putting the cart before the ox?"

I am not defending CanAm - but seriously, some of you guys are crazy. You guys almost demand instantaneous update every hour, which is impossible. For one, the bowel of paperwork in the bureacracy is counted by WORKING days, if not by weeks.

it is not going to make anyone feel better, or change the process, or make things go any faster by just repeating the complaint every hour. The worst is to start being speculative. You guys are just creating your own fear and start feeding each other with more fear. And then sit around and hold hands, and feel even worse together.

And comments by people like Mossman are just, without a better way of saying it. Retarded.

Just sit tight and relax, let CanAm handle it. That's their business. they have more incentive to handle this in the right way than anyone. I have my cc charged too, but I am not going to feel bad for thing I cannot control.

LOL what did this mossman say?

Gt- we're gun owners in kanada, we are pessimistic by nature! I also think we're so damned stoked to get these guns. I was the same way when waiting for my xcr, but there was no delay at customs. And there were only 25 rifles coming, not hundreds of us waiting to get our grubby hands on them.

Read one of the last posts in the old thread, there you will see Mossman's rant.

I think Mossman's post was quite well thought and thought provoking (the latter not necessarily being a good thing).

There is one thing that kind of deflates his argument:
Lever Arms is already selling them. Do they currently have them in stock? If so, a shipment somewhere must have made it in through customs - and if so, what would the CFC/RCMP/Fatcats in Ottawa do? They already know that dozens of these rifles are already in the hands of licensed firearms owners and businesses and then what? They send a SWAT team to the residence of each registered T97 owner (and Lever Arms) to confiscate them? Grandfather the existing owners and give them 12(x)?

I doubt it - I'd be willing to bet some douchebag anti's from customs, the RCMP, the government had a hand in the delay of our rifles - but rather than fear monger, doom cry, or get gloomy about not having mine - I'm going to take a few more shots of tequila and contemplate ways I'm going to flamboyantly flaunt in the face of those douchebags that I own (another) scary looking communist rifle but am not doing anything immoral, illegal, or not in the interest of public safety, once I get mine.

I dont' even see it as so complicated.

If I am a not so knowledgable employee of CBSA, I would rather send stuff to the RCMP and let them make the decision before I take the fall of allowing things in.

Natural mechanism of covering up your own 6 in the bureacracy. Nothing sinister about it. This is how thing work of moving the ball to someone's court ot protect one's own career, especially in the government land of inefficiency.

Take the tinfoil hat off, until it is time to put it on.

While I can see the fun factor in doing this, wouldn't this give the anti-gun crowd more fodder to attack us with? My plans for this rifle (If it comes in as non-restricted) is to get my varmint hunting licence, get a bunch of 10 round mags, pin a few at 5 rounds, then go in the woods to fire off a few rounds. Bring the 10 round ones to the range.

This rifle looks WAY less ominous with a 10 round mag than those 30 round (pinned to 5) ones sticking out the back.

I said contemplate - not do :p

I like your idea better though. I've never hunted before, and honestly, my reason for buying this rifle versus an M4 was to actually hunt with it.

What can you hunt with .223 anyways?

You know, at first it was fun - $100 deposit, and the guns will be here at Xmas - great! Then it became January, but we all knew that was going to happen...things always take a bit longer than planned.
Then, near the end of January, my card was charged for the balance - finally, the rifles were almost here! But now, everything seems, well, who really knows? CanAm seems to have no info, as he is overseas. Everyone is frothing at the mouth at potential issues, but honestly, I do wish we hadn't been charged for the full amount so early.
I thought we were charged because the rifles had cleared customs, and within a few weeks, we would get them. Now, my bill has come in and I've paid it, but no rifle. The longer it takes, the worse it seems to feel. If we could at least know what the time line is, I think it would take some of the uneasiness away. I know CanAm probably has no answers, and this isn't a shot at him. Just, this seems to be turning into a clustermixup the longer it plays out...

x2!

It's not the fact that the rifles are delayed that pisses me off, it's the fact that my card was charged a month ago and now someone else is collecting interest on my money. I was lead to believe that the charge would happen when my rifle was shipping out to me. I even confirmed this during the order process. Like many of you it's not about the delay, it's about the lack of info being communicated from the company. Leaving buyers in limbo AFTER charging credit cards is not how you keep customers.

Just my 2 cents

With .223, pretty much deer only, but you'd be better off with a bolt action .223. The thing with a varminter licence ( allows you to hunt coyotes, crows , groundhogs) is that you can carry any non-restricted 12 gauge or .223 in the woods, so it covers your ass if you just wanna go shooting.

Not a big hunter myself, I stick to small game, but the freedom to take the T97 in the woods was a big factor when i decided to get one.

I'm taping my 10 rounders together, then going gopher hunting. The xcr is scoped with a bipod. It'll be for the long range shots. The 97 will be my walking and killing gun.

I understand you, the trouble is not the rifle delay, is just no communication from Canam.

I understand is Weapon and not Candy, but why Canam didn't sent some news by a email (general info) just for turn off the stress.

Harbl, I think this guy is in ontario. You cant use 223 for deer in ab. You also do not need a varmint licence in ab. You can blast gophers, crows, coyotes etc with a 223

ok first off use the right terminoligy it is not a weapon it is a firearm you want to scare the anti's using words like weapon is a great way choose what you write before you write it please.

The way I see the situation....
CBSA opens container of scary-looking rifles...
Nobody knows anything about them...
Send one to RCMP tech's to identify...
We'll have them in 2 weeks.
