Typo ??

Not Norc/most surplus. A simple magnet test will show you what is/is not.

So I just went and pulled the bullets off of two cartridges. Yellow box CJ93 and spam can CJ95. Both bullets are lead core and the jackets do not stick to a magnet. Is it older stuff that's bi-metal?

^^^^

dido.. mine did not stick to magnet. Also Canada Ammo website leads me to believe there's were/are copper jacket lead bullets.

Sometimes you get some funny ammo from commie countries.. but this 223 was newer manufacture. no?

Good to know!!! A lot of the Chinese stuff I have shot it bi-metal...MFS brand ammo is as well if I am remembering correctly...?

Anyways if Norc is or is not...bi-metal bullets, yes the BULLETS not the casing material WILL wear out the barrel faster.

Was not trying to insult anyone/or this ammo. Just don't want someone unknowingly burning out a barrel faster then "normal" using cheaper ammo. Note higher pressure ammo or "hot" ammo can do the same but it will be more so eroding away at the throat vs. the rifling.

Example...a Swiss Arms barrel is high end...they cost $1000 before shipping and taxes and you need to send the rifle away for it to be fitted on. Is it really "cheaper" to shoot ammo out of that will result in the barrel going to poo way way faster in it? They should get 20,000 + rounds before accuracy becomes unacceptable...having it happen at 6,000 would BLOW...

Almost any other metal (that is cheaply affordable) if used as a bullet jacket would destroy the rifling very, very fast!!!
People read a lot more in to the anecdotal article than they should. The germans use steel jacket NATO ball; far from "cheap ammo"

Why I said ALMOST all other metals :p

The German jackets are really thin and designed more to frag then anything else.

I Agree. SO Much FAIL!

A bi-metal bullet will Not wear out or 'Shoot Out' a barrel faster.

Read the link I provided (I know, requires EFFORT *gasp*)...it is PROVEN...10,000 rounds test...3 different guns, 3 different ammo brands...the 2 bi-metal rounds did and they DO wear out barrels after :)

***The Chinese ammo I have shot in the past was bi-metal...so I was giving a warning due to that, if this Norc ammo passes the magnet test and therefore is not bi-metal then GREAT, be happy...no reason to be butt hurt***

thickness has little to do with it. Are the Chinese jacket thick?

Little is still something...

A STEEL jacket will not wear out a gun in 5 shoots but it WILL do so faster then a copper one will. A harder metal wears out the batter faster...just like a harder core will too :)

The US Army has been manufacturing 30-06 and 7.62 ammo with bimetal steel/copper jacketing for over 40 years.

It has been proven in military ordnance tests that this does not damage barrels and only increases the wear rate by about 10-15 % in stainless barrels.
