U.S. Ban on 0.40 S&W exports to Canada?

I was in a firearms store in Vancouver on the weekend and when I was buying some cases of 0.40 S&W ammo for my Beretta the salesman told me I should stock up because the C.I.A. had just announced a ban on exporting that ammo to Canada.

I can't find any info about this online. Can anyone confirm this or was the salesman trying to scam me into making a bigger purchase?

Thanks,

Steve

No ban. However the ammo suppliers have warned us that it might be in short supply due to demand down south.

The following is an alert from the CSSA:

AMMO, BUY AMMO!

We have it on good authority that the U.S. State Dept is cutting off all Export Permits for certain calibers of ammunition, namely .50BMG, 7.62x39mm Soviet, 7.62x51mm NATO, .308 Winchester , 5.56mm NATO and .223 Remington. They may also expand the list to include 6.8mm SPC, 9mm Parabellum, .40 S&W and .45 Automatic, amongst others. As well, there may be blanket export bans on certain types of firearms and DSP-83 End Use Certificates (with a $250 Export Fee) attached to all other types. Already, many firearms-related companies are refusing to ship product to Canada because the U.S. required paperwork is simply too excessive to make it profitable and a number of Canadian distributors have had U.S. Export Permits refused for simple sporting arms in “prohibited” calibers. Don’t be terribly surprised to see reloading components added to the list too! It appears the anti-gun bureaucrats in the State Department have found a kindred spirit in President-Elect Barack Obama and are revving up the jets on us already. We have to emphasize that this information comes from a very reliable source and has been independently confirmed but at present, it is still being fought and the battle isn’t over yet. Lots of us are working on this and remember, this is U.S export only and does not affect EU imports. Firearms and ammunition exported from Europe will be unaffected (at least so far.) We’ll keep you informed as this unfolds. In the meantime, we suggest you consider stocking up.

I bet he told you to buy an AR15 too, as the government will be banning them soon. ;)

Salesmen usually know far less than those 'in the know' on CGN, and the CIA doesn't dictate US State Dept. policies either.

There might be something to it....

I was in Bellingham on the weekend, tank of gas, milk cheese and a box of Wallmart 9mm Winchester ammo. I could not believe it the self was bare of all popular ammo and have been for weeks........

Rich, rich, RICH!!! I'm ganna be rich... :dancingbanana::dancingbanana::dancingbanana:

I reload 13 different calibers... I'm gonna be rich once they ban these calibers. I have a basement full of brass. Want some 40's? 45's? how bout some 7.62? I got them all and the market price will skyrocket... I feel like an early retirement is coming.

The C.I.A. is watching you. :runaway:

Well, I'm sure you will still have competition from any manufacturers in Europe, China, and elsewhere. Time for you to start a buy Canadian campaign.

Careful, that box of Walmart 9MM Winchester ammo could cost your car,, homeland security has a dim view of ALIENS buying ammo or gun stuff!!

I predict an identical thread to this one will appear at least every 2 months from now until the end of CGN. Someone somewhere is going to hear from "good sources" that something is going to be banned and it has been independently verified by some guy who knows things about stuff.

I don't have a .40 (or not yet anyway.)

I do have about 5 gallons of .40 brass however. I should be good as long as I can get primers & powder.

Money in the bank my friend!

Now, at the risk of sounding alarmist, primers and powder are getting scarcer. I have started stockpiling as to not run out, I just hope to hell there is never a fire in my house!

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!!!!!! The end of the world is near!!! Primer shortage, primer shortage!!! When will it end?

hmmm so is America the only place we can import ammo from .........cia eh
i heard but i am not sure that there are other counties that manufature ammo too , i guess its just harder to get it from them

so what would this ban specifically would there be no more "winchester, remington, Federal" etc ammo at all? or could the manufacters still make it here?

glad im getting into reloading, jsut hipe they don't start banning relaoding stuff here now:eek:....
