I was looking for a scope to put on my .375 Ruger, and the VX-3 2.5-8x36 seems like a good fit. I found it online for $560 in Canada. Talking to a guy in the U.S, he mentioned he can buy the same scope for $399. Checked Cabela's and sure enough,$399 for a VX-3 2.8-8x36. Of course, they won't ship to Canada. Anyone know an online retailer who will, for reasonable shipping costs? It just seems too big a jump in price, particularily with a strong canadian dollar.

Get an import permit, then apply for an export permit, and then get the scope shipped and pay Duty + GST. Oh and forget about warranty service in Canada, Korth won't help you.

This is what importers have to do for every scope in Canada. There is a reason they are so much more here, and it isn't retailer greed. You can thank government bureaucracy for all of it.

This may be true for US made scopes but it's not always the case with European. For instance, Leica and Schmidt&Bender are the same price and sometimes considerably less than anywhere in the US. Spend some time looking at various Cdn dealers prices and you may be surprised.

Before the paranoia set in I picked up a VX3 3.5x10 BC for $399 with choice of Leupold rings ..............Harold

Absolutely it's not the retailers who are forced to buy from Korth. The problem is KORTH, not some bogus governement paper work mumbo jumbo. Otherwise the price differential in Canada vs the USA would be the same across the board on ALL scopes coming out of the USA but that is not the case. Zeiss Conquests are the exact same price in Canada as the USA. Where as Leupold scopes are +25% more in Canada then the USA. So when buying Leupold scopes in Canada consumers can thank KORTH for the over inflated prices!

Should Korth be bringing Leupold into Canada as a public service? FS

If its a Leupold and therefore MADE in the USA...there should be NO DUTY charged.

The last new Leupold I purchased was either a VXIII 3.5-10x40 or VXII 4-14x40AO - paid around $450 total

In order to have a warranty on a Leupold scope in Canada, you must purchase it from a store that bought it from Korth.

Is it worth the extra $$ for a warranty you may never need? To each his own. Its not just Leupold either. I used to have a Nikon Monarch 6-24x50 that was $589 in the U.S. but here it was $835.

One of the reasons why so many Canadian hunters, target shooter like to get scopes in US. If our distributors will just come closer to a pair with US prices they will make more money.

My two cents

Get a sightron. Hirschprecision.com brings them in for very competetive prices, usually 10% or less over US pricing.

Excellent product, service, and you aren't getting screwed by the big "K" distributor.

I checked out Bass Pro and they aren't dealing with Canadian distributors, but by the time they do all the import and export they are as high as any other dealer in Canada. Maybe if everyone bought all gun stuff from the U.S. and smuggled it in we would be better off. Oh wait then there wouldn't be any stores in Canada to phone and ask questions for an hour about something we bought in the states.TWK

Some time ago I brought up the same subject. It is Leupold, and Korth gouging us Canuks. It happens in many industries. In the scope industry Leupold is the worst, but they don't care cause many sheep just follow them at any cost. If you do bring it in from the US, and if you do need any warranty, you have to send it back to the US, even though there is a warranty repair outlet right here in southern Alberta. Just another way they force you to buy,,, I mean get gouged here, by Luppy, and Korth.
They will never see a pennie of mine.

Leupold/Korth, are the worst in the "Canadian" scope business. Can-Am whose old parrent company is one of the worst corporate welfare cases in Canada comes to mind as well. They took all your hard earned tax dollars, and opened up a nice big shiny plant in Mexico, taking jobs from Eastern Canadians, then sell back their quads etc, which were financed by you, at a price which is thousands higher than they charge americans.

To make sure you canuks can't get a fair price on a quad Can-Am has imposed a sell to Canadians and lose your franchise policy on US dealers. other companies do the same but these guys P-ss me off because I subsidised them.

As for Leupold and Korth, they are hiding behind US export laws. If you buy a scope in the US you have to send it back to the US, for service, even though there is a service facility right here in Southern Alberta.

Support your Local retailer, and buy Euro scopes which are priced the same or less than the US, and tell Korth and Leupold to stuff it, by not giving them your money.
