Ultra Light Hunting Rifle Set Up??

Agreed. The Tikka T3x Superlight is a great starting point for a UL rifle. Fairly affordable & light in factory form, and with great aftermarket, easily upgraded/lightened over time as budget allows. Not hard to get under 5.5 pounds, with the right stock and some Ti parts.

But on a Tikka I'd go Sportsmatch rings over Talley LWs every single time. Only an ounce or two heavier, and way stronger.

+1 on the Sportsmatch great rings.

I hate to admit it, being a big fan of kimbers….but at todays prices I’d go for a tikka t3 and finish a wildcat stock myself. Light, accurate as hell and great ergos….they make lots of custom rifles look bad.

in that case why not go weaver steel base with leupold qrw ... this is the route i went for my regular light t3x.

Because SM clamp right to the integral T3x dovetail rail, have a recoil pin, and they're quite a bit lighter.

If I'm not using a rail on a Tikka, I want rings that clamp directly to the integral dovetail. No bases required.

But that's just my preferences. :)

Yessir, I think you’re correct about them supplying the original AI rings.

I usually order from Twanado Airguns in the UK. Micheal over there has been excellent to deal with every time. Super communication and fast shipping. He even touches base a week or two later to make sure the shipment arrived ok. If he’s out of stock, Airguns of Arizona is decent to deal with as well, but it ends up costing more from them.

A few things annoy me about super light rifles and I went back to compromise setups. One thing was a scope that is only chosen for being light weight and just not up the task of taking a deer at longer range cleanly. Rather something with a higher magnification, proper turrets, good tracking and parallax to also check if any twigs, fence wire or grass is in the bullet path. Then stocks, some are built so light and might not have the internal structure to take a hard hit if dropped or one takes a tumble in the hunt. Would be a pity if the hunt of a lifetime were ruined for the sake of a few ounces or wrong construction. Not sure yet if a carbon barrel is a winner over a say a similar weighted steel barrel, I have both, both work neither are ultra ultra light weight. If carrying a rifle is an issue what is the issue going to be when carrying the rifle and the deer back.

SO EJG what would be your suggestion for a BUILD including a scope for a LIGHTWEIGHT hunting rig ? RJ

Sportsmatch rigs ARE way STRONGER then Talley LW 1 Piece rings ?? Care to PROVE that or is it Just your opinion ? RJ

Just my opinion. But it’s based on observing their design and material differences. And having seen Talley LWs break, in person. And never having even heard of broken Sportsmatch TO84s. :)

Omer keeps Tikka optilock ring mounts in stock clamping directly to the dovetail as designed

For the OP I'd also recommend that or any other rifle mentioned here really. But when it comes to budgets for improving pack weight, it turns out single leg squats and deadlifts are just cheaper than carbon

Imagine being fit AND having light gear!

Give it up and become a truck (or ATV) hunter. No need for an uber light rifle then.

Ride around in with your buddy in style & comfort. No getting wet in the rain. No dragging deer too far cuz you choot them from the road. Lots of pop, chips and those cool little Halloween chocolate bars on tap. What's not to like?
