Ultra short hunting rifle for medium games

I know, I know, may be many people have had the same question....but...
I want to start a thread again and put every ideal together...

let put some requirements first:

1. ultra short, as short as you can get
2. Legal, unless out of factory by default, we can not modify a barrel shorter than 18.5 inch for a auto loading, and 18 inch for others...and over all length has to be at least 26 inch
3. for medium game, dear and black bear
4. caliber should be up from .243,..... 25-06,...... 7mm-08, .....308,...... up to 30-06
5. hunt game in 200 yards.
6. available in Canada
7. make the LOP no less than 12.5 inch, as it is the smallest we can find in out of factory compact rifles

so, the good: the barrel is 16.25 inch, and OAL is 32 inch; very short !

but bad : my friend has one, I went hunt with him twice last year and it had the feeding problems twice in feild...he had a gun smith looked it and "fixed" after the first time but happened again the second time. later he bought a savage bolt action and never touched it again.

hope it is not a common issue but it has put a bad image to me.

and , it is a tube magazine, and you have to use flat or round nosed bullet and range is about 100 yards to 150 yards.....I can not say it is a 200 yard hunting rifle ...

the good: 12.5 inch LOP, 20 inch barrel, and OAL is 38.125 inch
if cut down to 18 inch for ultimate short, it will be 36.125 inch !!!

the bad: .....................the bad is no one is going to cut a good browning from 20 inch barrel to 18 inch barrel, so it will stay 38.125 inch.... not "ULTRA" short

the good: ultra short, 26 inch OAL, some even come with 25 inch OAL, that is the shortest i see on the market~!

the bad: come with only .22lr .22WM or .45, handgun cartridge, not a hunting gun, could be a good toy, and good back packing self defense gun

the good: 14 inch of LOP, 28 inch of barrel, 42.5 inch of OAL out of factory
can be easily modified to
12.5 inch of LOP, 20 inch barrel, then the OAL is 33 inch
ultimately let go down to 18 inch barrel, that make a OAL of 31 inch

the bad: single shot~~~~i know, to hunt down a animal, most of us only need one shot...but what if a cougar or black bear is charging towards you ...??
 
Here are a pair of non-ugly short guns (35.5") with 16.5" barrels... Ruger M77 Hawkeye Compacts... these two are in .223 & 7-08;

Keltec RFB in .308 (funnily enough, the guys that HATED this little bull pup at our deer camp now use them as well...I've never used a better rifle for fast movers and tight bush :) )
