Ultra short hunting rifle for medium games

I did not know that the pistol mode is NR in Canada ?
should it be Restricted ?

if really NR, ...then that could be count as a option..

Not pistols per se, but as the Contenders and Encores have factory made short barrels, they list them as "pistol barrels", you can legally use them on a rifle configured gun. Lots of calibers in 12" -15" barrels both blued and SS. With the pistol grip they would not be legal for hunting in Canada but they are if you have a buttstock and you are legally allowed to adjust the LOP of said buttstock.

What do your friends feel like when you go hunting with a single shot ?
I mean, .....some would think that he needs to protect me and I can not protect him if I carry a single shot gun with him.....and he is going not willing go out with me any more...
....

The only time I have ever felt undergunned with my single shot was predator calling with a .223 barrel on the gun and calling in a black bear that passed within about 10' of me. Even with a repeater in .223 I am pretty sure I would have felt undergunned:)

I am wondering how does this one shoot ? since it has only 16 inch barrel... I presume some about 100 fps speed lost ? and very loud ?
There's a reason why most guns have bbls between 20" to 24" and the LOP is 13.5". People have found that when you go to extremes outside these values, they don't handle as near well and there are other factors to deal with including muzzle blast and velocity loss.

You're choice, but you can't have it both ways.

How about the Zastiva M85 mini mauser in 7.62x39. Light, short and ammunition availablity with the same(or better) performance than a 300blk. With the Shutzen stock they are sooo pretty as well, unlike some of the other "ugly rifles" shown.

the good: ultra short, 26 inch OAL, some even come with 25 inch OAL, that is the shortest i see on the market~!

the bad: come with only .22lr .22WM or .45, handgun cartridge, not a hunting gun, could be a good toy, and good back packing self defense gun

Rossi comes in .44Mag.

On both of the TC guns you can legally run the pistol barrels so anything from 12" on up and easily adjust the LOP on the wood and non recoil synthetic stocks to whatever you prefer. It can legally be less than 26" if you use a fixed stock and a non-shortened factory barrel.

Actually your facts are a little bit off.

You can install any length of barrel that you want as long as it was manufactured to that length (not shortened) and the overall length of the firearm has to be over 26"

Re 12" barrel length = In BC you cannot hunt with a barrel length shorter than 12" has nothing to do with shooting/or mounting a barrel that is shorter.

I'm kind of into the short T/C Contender carbines have 3 14" barrel set ups overall length with a 14 LOP is 29 1/2" when my son is a bit older and I add length to his shortened butt stock he will be able to run the short barreled carbines but as of now overall length is under 26" so I do not put that combo together yet.

This is my little guy from a few years ago with his 16.5" barreled 22LR with the shortened butt stock OAL is 26 3/8" he's now 7 years old I swap out the 22LR barrel for an 18" 10mm barrel and a 21" 410 barrel.

You might want to check on that over 26" rule. As long as you use an un-altered "factory" barrel and a fixed stock you can legally be shorter than 26" OAL. Think Rossi Ranch Hands.

The info I shared with you came from the CFO + a couple Conservation officer friends.

If my guns were under 26" they would confiscate them.

Reason for this is using your Ranch Hands as an example the Contenders were not manufactured to those lengths from the factory like the Ranch Hands.

My Handi-Rifle in .223Rem was a Superlight with a 20inch barrel but now also has a 22inch barrel in .308Win and it is short and light enough for me. I wouldn't sacrifice any more barrel length on this rifle as the action allows it to be pretty compact anyway.

I'd rather a good Jungle Carbine than most the guns I've seen in this thread so far. Most would handle like a baseball bat.

lol....sorry SC, but I've carried a #5....8 years X 3 seasons a year....I don't see a single gun (mares leg excluded) posted in this thread that isn't a handling *improvement* over the #5. From the T/C's to the Ruger compacts/frontiers to the RFB, I've put 100's of hours and 100's of foot km's carrying most examples listed here...and from experience, you couldn't be more wrong. (Unless, of course, you are of the belief that blue+walnut=a handling advantage....)
