how come?

I was more caught up with the thrill of the acquisition. But, ultimately there were less expensive guns I actually enjoyed shooting more. So my nice little collection of G36s and a UMP got sold, and I’ve mostly stayed with Swiss Arms.

I should add though that the G36s were indeed awesome. Light, maneuverable, and stone cold reliable. If I was a richer man I would have kept them.

I would agree. Personally I like shooting the EVO 3 more so than the MP5 or UMP.

me too on many fronts lol

Damn. Bartok has some disposable income!

Not nearly so much as you might think. In fact, I am on a fixed disability income from the wounds incurred during my military service that have put me In a wheelchair. I did not pay "the going rate" for my G36, as listed by Wanstalls. However, in the interests of maintaining established value in the German rifles, I must decline to say how much I paid. That is best left between vendors and customers. As for my collection, please bear in mind that what I have took me 35 years to amass. It also helps to have a very indulgent Wife!

OK, I posted something similar the other night but deleted it as I felt I was providing TMI. After more thought I think it's important these stories and others like it get out there. I found all this info online after some searches.

Bartok5 (which is not his real name) is a Major in the Canadian Armed Forces. "His lower body was decimated by the blast of an improvised explosive device while his team rescued another injured Canadian". Apart from other debilitating injuries suffered from this Taliban ambush he also lost both his legs above knee.

I've seen photos of his "room" and his remarkably impressive collection. This man deserves our highest respect.

If you feel uncomfortable with this and want me to delete this let me know,

If your the same Mark I think you are then after the #### you went through you deserve to buy any gun you want without question.

The "overheating accuracy degradation" myth concerning the G36 has been thoroughly debunked by independent tests conducted by numerous reputable sources. The G36 is no more an LMG than a C7, yet it is capable of sustained fire when required. See the "G36 900 rounds full auto" video produced by H&K, which clearly shows the G36 perform admirably in a prolonged automatic fire situation. TFB did an accuracy test before and after sustained automatic fire and found no difference in POI or group size.

If you dig into the German political scandal surrounding the G36, you will find a Left-wing Defence Minister going after HK as that nation's preeminent manufacturer and exporter of "implements of war". It was nothing more than a manufactured scandal to make political hay. Absurdly, the plan back-fired as it is HK that will reap the additional business of rearming the Bundeswehr with new rifles and carbines. Talk to German soldiers and most that I have met are fine with the G36 - they quite like it.

Is the G36 perfect? Nope, but no particular infantry rifle is. The G36 is exceptionally lightweight however, which is an important and much-appreciated attribute in the infantry. The cost of that is polymer construction however, with a Trunnion that may flex if the weapon is fired to an extent far beyond its design parameters. No particular surprise there. I have seen MG barrels that were not correctly swapped during sustained fire actually droop like a noodle in an all-steel weapon. Abuse any tool and it will eventually fail, however that reflects badly on the G36 no more than it does on the C7 or any other rifle in military service.

Awesome rifle Mark, I hope when I'm out your way I'll be atleast able shoot it one day!!!

It's nice having an indulgent wife, I too am in the same boat as yourself for a very understanding and loving wife.

Unlike someone on here who probably hasnt been f'ed in 30 years and is pissed with the world for what others can achieve and purchase all the while being butthurt constantly needing to sound like a grumpy SOB with his constant sniveling & whining way ;-)

Yes, far more than that. They periodically squeak into Canada via different channels. I’ve owned 4 myself and I know of many other owners. I’ve never paid anywhere near $12K for the ones I’ve owned. They have ranged from $5500 to $8500; I’ve owned a C, K (x2), and a P (it’s the same as the E). Values may have gone up.

Edit: I should add that I purchased all mine between 2007 and 2012.

I had 3 chances to buy one and never did. The last batch had 6 rifles left when I talked to the gentleman selling them.

You guys are too kind! Thanks for the very nice words, just the same. We should know in another month if the Supreme Court of Canada will hear our class action lawsuit known as the "Equitas case". I want to see senior bureaucrats from Veterans Affairs on the stand attempting to defend their 40% reduction of our disability benefits during the Afghan War so badly I can taste it. They deserve to twist in the legal wind for lying to Canadians about the reductions, but of course those people will all retire with their golden parachutes and generous public servant pensions intact. The betrayal feeds my hate and anger, which at least keeps me warm on cold nights....

Apologies for the derail tangent, back to G36s!
