while scouting for turkeys on monday the landrover killed a water pump, hobbled home and called around for parts, its been three days before i got on the road again.i should name the rover frankenstein for all the repaced parts and duct tape.
the worst incident happened on the second day of a moose hunt a few years ago. buddy was following my samurai which was built for the bush. told him to leave his brand new chevy truck at the landing but noooo he want to drive his own vehicle.i go down a steep long valley road . its starting to rain and things r getting slick. the sami has mudders so no problem but the chevy has the allseason oem tires. i tell him to wait at top and ill see how bad it is.as soon as im on the other side he comes sliding down, were talking colse to half a klick. he goes sideways and wedges the doors between two trees off the trail.well he gets pissed and floors it wedging the truck worse. he goes back and forth ripping off the front bumper.fenders look like a paper oragami.there are logs jamed underneath and its pouring rain. not the best coditions. well hes wedged good and tight with the rear box wrapped around a tree.he asks for a chainsaw and cuts the ofending trees down. we laydown logs so he can get up over the mud.i hook the suzuk and try to pull out but that 4x4 weights too much.were at it for about 5 hours and finally get the truck on the trail but its to steep and wet to get out and he put some huge ruts in the road. i suggest him to leave the truck till the road dries and its supposed to freeze overnight which should firm up the mud.again he wants to stay with the new truck . he tells us to meet him in the morning , he has food ,heaters,a sleeping bag and such.one of the guys volunteer to stay with him and we leave to come back at 8am.we arrive the next day and hes nowhere to be found, these r back roads with hundreds of kilometers of logging roads joining. we didnt pass him on the trail so he must of taken a detour.we ask atvrs if theve seen a black new chevy and finally get a response from one guy that says he seen a truck go buy hitting into trees and such like a mad man. after another hour we spot the truck on the side of the road and it wont move. he got a log wedged under the drive shaft and bent it enough that it would not move.the truck was a mess .fenders were totaled no front bumper and the box was bent and dented, the tires and rims were damaged from the rocks and logs. i had a comealong and rebent the driveshaft so we can get out if the bush.so we spent two full days of my 3 day moose hunt looking after a stuburn hunt club member who basically totalled his truck out of stupidity.i packed it in and called it a day.
note i omited all the arguments and swearing to keep it clean, but i think alot of you get the picture.
