Unfriendly highway signs in B.C.

Lets not be to critical of Snowhunter as he has a right to his opinion. Maybe through the discussions here he may , down the road, reflect back upon his position relating to the signs and might, just might change his opinion. Many things taken at first glance might raise ones ire but make sense after one ponders for a while.;)

If I was able to change those flashing highway signs, they would read, "Welcome British Columbia hunters, the pride of our society" and like that, unlike the anti poaching message now flashing. It would be to much to expect form our "political correct" society ?

If it bugs you so much, then why don't you send a letter saying this very thing to whoever in our government is in charge of these signs?

Actually is a good sign, it tells to the general public that hunting IS legal and allowed just 400mts from the highway. Is incredible how many people believe that all guns are 100% banned in Canada.

It would be the day that we hunters would enjoy some respect from the rest of the society we deserve, as well as spending more time out hunting than on the internet :)

Also, the hunter nowadays, has to not only to do a lot of "self policing" by following all kinds of hunting and fire arms regulations, but the hunter is also asked to police other hunters by "observing and recording" other hunrters activities. No wonder we have lost over 60 % of the hunters in British Columbia the last 20 years. The newpapers in the Okanagan Valley claims that in the last ten years, 50 % of the hunters in Okanagan Valley stopped hunting.

I see it no different than Citizens on Patrol, instead it's Hunters on Patrol.

BAD GUYS BEWARE WE ARE WATCHING YOU.

Was'nt that in communist Rumania, that 25 % of the population reported on the rest of the population to the secret police :)

When I go hunting, I seldom encounter other hunters, and when I do, I usually enyoy their company. I also find that the lousy hunters are the most nosy one's, trying to find out if you broke any rules or regulation when you bagged your game. I guess it's jalousi, and I usually ignore them, and go on with my hunt.

The loss of hunters has nothign to do with the highway signs. Do some research and you will see why we have lost hunters.

bone, I love your sense of humor :)

Well, I am only crying crocodile tears over the loss of 60 % of the British Columbia hunters the last 20 years. It gives me much better odds at the LEH, as well as much better succes rate when hunting at popular hunting spots :)

I don't think that snowunter's initial comment had anything to do with insinuating that "signs" were responsible for the loss of hunters. Even though I expressed not feeling threatened or targeted by these "signs", I can sympathize with his concerns. Bones definetely has a wicked sense of humour, but besides a picture of a looser snorting coke, I'd also wish I had a picture of a Playstation or Xbox to add to that. :)

Funny, in one of my manny visit to Quebec city, I once got a semilar message from a francophone, whereupon, after I switzed to my Native North American language, explained few fact, and got an interesting reaction.

Even though this particular francophone did not speak any Native North American language, he perfectly understood every word I spoke to him :)

I still feel that these silly and flashing higway signs against poachers in British Columbia, do not, or will not any way reduce poaching in this province.

er.... and that's relevent... how? :D

That is indeed amazing. And highly ironic.... I've felt during this particular conversation that you DO speak the north american language being used..yet aren't understanding anything said :D

Well that's your perrogative. I think a fairly basic study of how the human mind work (or any first year marketing course) would demonstrate to you the value of repeating a message to the 'consumer' to implant an idea or suggestion. Sometimes the most subtle efforts yield remarkable results. Non poachers get the message over time that if they see poaching they should report it, and potential poachers get the message that people might well be watching and might report them.

If your argument is that it won't put an end to poaching.. well you're probably right. But it won't likely INCREASE poaching either, and the anti-poaching message over time probably will have an effect on many people. So.. if it can't hurt, and it may help, it just doesn't seem like something worth complaining about.

Very well said Foxer.

Can we now bring this thread to a close?

No !!!!!

It only has 96 replies and deserves 100.

How about those " Report Aggressive Drivers " signs you see all over the southern part of the province ( probably every where ) that's one beady eyed mother ####er, eh? Kind makes me feel like the government doesn't want me to drive.

Now where did I put down that piece of limestone I was working on?
