Most were converted in the US to get away from the "destructive device" regulations, which apply to anything over 50 cal in the US. My own reason for conversion was because ammo was too hard to come by and I like to shoot my stuff.Yes, Captain Boys. The one I saw has a muzzle-brake attatched. As far as I know some were converted by owners to 50 cal Browning after the fact and were never issued to the army in that calibre

There are photos of one converted by the US military to 50BMG and used for long distance harassing fire (and sniping) during the 50s. The barrel was just a M2 barrel grafted onto the rifle.

Hey everyone, found a picture of my grandfather training men at Petawawa in the mid to early 40's. Does anyone know what kind of gun this is in the picture? IF so, any chance I can find someone to fire one? I would love to! Thanks for your help. BTW the picture is a little fuzzy and I can get a clearer one, I just thought some of you experts would know.

Cool rifles. I would prefer one of the Soluthurn S18's I heard Wolverine has one as a 'conversation piece' - or was it some other business?

Talk about immensely huge and powerful rifles for which you can't get ammo or range time for!Still and all - would be cool to have as a 'man - cave' gun.
