Only foreigners could be hired because it's illegal to have Canadians shoot from helicopters. .......

It's not like there are any hunters in Canada. Good thing the tax payer payed for a cull rather than allow for a organized humane harvest by citizens.... I would have done it expenses paid only.

I'm wondering if the "eradication specialists" are just going to leave the meat. Gonna be a bear gong show in a heart beat!

I’m going to speak with the MP’s Office tomorrow after work.
Why the f.....they didn’t hire the local bands to do this is beyond me.
Give a man a deer and he eats for a week.
Teach a man to hunt and he eats for a lifetime.
Drove me batty last night trying to rationalize the bloody idiots.
Then they quote the beeotch from the SPCA?
Literally one can not make this crap up.
Then again Florida hired the two snake hunters from India to come and help eradicate those pythons and boas from the Everglades.
Rob

Indeed Rob - I reckon the two python hunters did not need a helicopter other than to deliver them to the location! Birdie Num Nums.

They did this a few years ago in Alberta because of chronic wasting disease. Brought in a couple shooters, helicopters, the works. $600 / hour for the helicopters. $2K + a day for the shooters. Big to-do about headshots only and none of the meat would be wasted - it was all going to be processed. YEAH RIGHT!

We had wounded deer all over the place, because they would just basically do strafing runs when they found a bunch. Then pictures came out of the "dead pits" where they were just dumping the bodies and burying them. Video of the wounded ones being dumped in the pits and buried with the rest. It turned into a huge Cluster.....!

My thought was the same. Why the expense. Run an add in the papers and on TV. "Hey Rednecks! Go out shoot deer. Turn the carcasses in for processing at this location. Turn the heads in over here. Repeat until we tell you to stop!" I figure we could have done the whole cull for about $359. Heck may have even turned a profit with the processed meat.

Fine example of govt trying to fix a problem the locals could have solved. Cost taxpayer millions at the end of the day

Lol Zombie deer headshots only!
Serious though, wonder if they had work permits, since they were competing with Canadians for this job... I would have done it for free, so long as they provided the accommodations..

Change a few sentences in the regs and watch them disappear... that and they could still pull in $10 a tag for conservation. That would also prevent just people from just shooting them and leaving.

Ie. Named six islands have no bag limit, Antlered or Antlerless, virtually open season.

They'd be gone in a few years, and money would be made and freezers filled.
