Update Beretta smashed, need a new gun see page 11 for advice

Welcome to the ranks! Didn't realize you were starting out new at hunting.

That Citori, provided it fits reasonably well and you don't mind the added weight, will serve your needs very well indeed. In fact, the heavier field model will be very much a plus point when you take the shotgun out for target practice at the range.

Yeah I have started lifting weights again, lol :p. The desk job makes me weak. What I am not sure of yet is whether I should go to the trouble of getting a sling for the gun or just leave it. Apparently I have to get a kit with a screw for the stock and barrel clamp.

The Europeans favour that more. Sling swivels particularly on a double gun simply ruins the beauty of it, however, I suppose it has a practical utility in some scenarios. There are leather ones available that come with a loop type thingy on each end so that one is saved from actually drilling (stock)/attaching swivels....putting that on or removal is simple and the fiream doesn't bear "scars" in any manner.

Should you eventually decide to install an actual swivel, PM me, I have a few sets and one is 12ga I believe (Beretta provides a set with every shotgun). Happy to let you have that if you wish.

Whats peoples opinions on a Franchi Renaissance Field? Seems to be new priced similiar to used Citori or close.
I have an older Franchi Falconet that has been used a lot with absolutely no complaints. When I was in Le Baron a few weeks ago, I spotted an O/U on the counter with a very nicely figured stock and asked Dave ,the salesman what it was. He told me it was the Franchi Renaissance Field in 12G and it was on sale for $1094.! I promptly gave him my PAL and subsequently took it home. It is a very well made gun and for the price, can`t be beat. Certainly one for you to consider. Tony

 VERBOTEN!!!

I've read this thread right through, and USP, I think you and I share a common problem. Unlike you, geese aren't on the menu but I wanted a nice 12 ga. over and under for grouse in the open slash and possibly ducks as well. Up until then I'd used my late dad's belgian browning. I live on Vancouver Island so I can't just walk into an EPPs or Marstar and try out different guns. 2 years ago I bought a new 12 ga Baretta because of the name only; a silver pigeon 28" chambered in 3" with chokes etc. mail order though Italian Spt. Goods in Vancouver.

OK, so I took it to the trap range twice to get used to it. When I shoulder it I see a little too much front sight. This means I have to take a millisecond to crawl down on the stock till it touches my cheekbone, which is costing me clay pigeons. This doesn't happen with the browning. Maybe I just have low cheekbones but I can tell you with rifle shooting I'm a stock crawler. I hit more clays with dad's old Browning.

The other thing I don't like about the baretta is the forend sounds hollow and it has a gloss finish. I should have clued into gloss finish but I never thought a baretta would sound like a glockenspiel when I tap the front.

OK; I can live with my mistake, but I'm wanting to by a 20 gauge Over & Under now, for grouse and possibly ducks. Would a higher end Baretta be easier on the cheekbone or are they all like that? FAIR seems to get good reviews, but is the comb going to be easier on my cheek? What abut a CITORI like you settled on? Prophet has a nice looking one in dark walnut. I'm not being fussy, and can compensate for a lot of things, inlcuding weight, but what advice do readers of this thread have?
