Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

I got nothing back from the ombudsman either. My mpp is claiming the cfo falls directly under the cfp, meaning the funding/governing is all federal. If that’s true they’ll never speed up the process. All of this is intentionally designed to make getting guns difficult. They want you to just give up

That makes no sense-we are already in the process of getting them, money spent and procedure initiated.

I think for every person that is willing to buy something now and wait a year, there's probably another person that didn't bother because they had to wait a year... and just the fact things are 30%+ more expensive than a few months ago I'm sure is hard to swallow for some.
Hoping to get some good 5894 completions today!

Made an account solely to follow this thread and am happy to provide an update. My number 58941xx was approved today Aug 18 purchased on May 31, first restricted as well. Thank you to everyone compiling the charts and info for everyone.

This is fantastic news! 58942xx here, I'm really starting to get excited now. Thanks for the update.

From my understanding, they process transfers in the sequence that they were initiated, so it should be the same for private vs dealer transfers. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Just my observation from data in this thread. Dealer can initiate transfer faster for completion you need to pray and donate blood, but private to private completes faster (more like random).

I bought a pistol from dealer is why I ask.
He figured 6 weeks, guess we'll see.....

I am not sure on that. There was a rumor that business-initiated transfers had sort of priority over the Private2Private ones but I am not sure how that could be done with only 2 processing officers there.

Probably, the assumption was caused by the fact some businesses were calling their "account managers" asking for some exceptional prioritizing and that somehow worked for the first couple of weeks in June until the practice stopped. I know some buyers were even calling the account managers of the businesses trying to have their transfers processed. Some succeeded, most not.

I am also not sure about the numerical sequence processing.
Let's say a seller initiated a transfer on June 1 and got a reference #5,800,000. The buyer was unable to get through the CFP phone line until July 1 when the numbers reached 5,900,000. Technically, the transfer should be 100,000 cases behind and I am thinking this can be a reason of the assumption that the businesses have the priority over the private transfers.

While buying from a store, a buyer is not required to call CFO to complete the transfer so the business is usually able to provide a transfer number within 1-3 days and then it goes to a queue.

They're still flying off the shelves; I have 60004** from yesterday, so that's ~2400 new transfers initiated in one day, two and a half months after the initial announcement.

I'm also still waiting on 59303** from June 10. Just over 70,000 transfers between my two purchases in 46 business days (accounting for July 1 and the Ontario Civic Holiday in August). It's still frustrating, but not quite as painful counting business days vs calendar days (67 days).

Both handguns were purchased online through two separate dealers in BC.

August 18 - 60028**

Pretty amazing eh! The market has spoken. Cheers to everyone who bought at least one. FJT!

The seller got through yesterday, August 17 (60017**) and I got through today for my part. It took 21 tries and just under an hour but when I got through the guy was pleasant and helpful. He said he is forwarding it to the province but don't expect the transfer to go through until the New Year. He explained that they have had over 123,000 requests since May 31 and normally they would have just over 3,000 in that period of time.

It's literally like watching paint dry or water boil.

New Canadian colloqualism "It's like waiting for a hand gun transfer."
