Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Day 15 business to private ON

That being said, I haven’t called to check. I would hope the retailer I bought it from would be taking care of that

Received my latest one on July 14, took 11 days total. Actually, much better than I was expecting !! They even added a new caveat (I'm in Ontario) to the transfer notice saying that I can pick up the gun using the transfer notice and bring it home, but I can't do any other transport with it prior to receiving the registration certificate.

15 days ON-ON business to private.

Not bad, but I do think 2 weeks should be the absolute max it should take.

Anything more than that I would get increasingly frustrated and upset each given day, and would finally cave and call at the 1-month mark.

07/19 Paid the for restricted firearm at gun store
07/30 Transfer Notification (got to take gun home)
08/03 New RPAL with ATT restrictions
08/17 Received registration certificate

Ontario CFO told me that they are processing private transfers from late July :/

I am not sure what retail transfers are like.

I would rant and whine but what's the point.

08/02 Paid for a restricted firearm online (1)
08/02 Paid for another restricted firearm online at a separate dealer (2)
08/14 Paid for another restricted firearm online at a third separate dealer (3)
08/20 Transfer for restricted firearm (1) completed, picked up
08/24 Transfer for restricted firearm (2) completed, shipped
08/24 No status on registration for (1)(2) or transfer for (3)
09/03 Received registration for (1)(2) no status on transfer for (3)

All in about 20 days per transfer, much better than I expected. Hoping registrations don't take as long. All 3 of these firearms were purchased brand new from retail stores.

I have done private transfers in August and those usually took about 3 days to complete. A few went to AB, BC, and ON

Edit: Updates

I have a couple transfers going and here is what I noticed.

On August 16 the reference numbers were around 5772900
On August 26 the reference numbers were around 5776900
On August 27 the reference numbers were around 5777400

Assuming that reference numbers for restricted firearms are given in sequence, that would mean between August 16-26 there were about 4000 transfers in about 9 business days and 500 transfers in one business day. I didn’t realize that many firearms were being sold in Ontario on a daily basis. While that is great news for the sport, it is terrible news for transfer wait times.

What do you guys think?

I think the Ontario CFO should step their game up but we all know it’s not going to happen. Complaints to the ombudsman fall on deaf ears. Just like everything else in this society, we are at the mercy of bureaucracy. Keep yourself busy with your other guns in the meantime
