Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

INFO:? I just had 3 pistols transfer, the Email came from "Canadian Transfer Firearms" , and I do not see any correspondence from RCMP in IWS about it, I've had a friend receive no email, but got the call from the store to pick up his gun. What is the Normal procedure ? I'm waiting on a few more that should have been processed in the last few days. Thanks
You and the seller should receive the transfer approval email from the "Canadian Transfer Firearms" only

From what I've seen in the last week or so I concluded that each employee takes ,let's say 1k files ,some of them work faster ,some don't work weekends and so on..that's why we've seen over the last few days 6.034's and 5's approved and almost nothing in the 6.031-6.032 range .I am sure the person that was assigned that batch didn't or worked very little over the past few days.
..and this person shattered my dream of having my S&W 686 for my birthday today...whyyyy GOD ,WHY ? LOL :bangHead:
6.032.3xx
Correct me if I'm wrong or if anyone has a better explanation

Look at post 7023. It has a brief explanation of how they work. This is a quote from that post

Spoke to CFP on the phone today, relevant to another issue but I asked how the process transfer is working and why there is such a spread on transfers each day, as in transfers 10k ref numbers apart coming the same day.

She confirmed that the way transfers are initiated determine which department handles them. Example initiated over phone, web portals, business, private all determine which department handle them. Some larger dealers will have a larger queue, which cause delays for their transfers. That is why we see some transfers rolling in that should have been completed 2 weeks ago, they just get stuck in a longer queue.

I'm hoping my last one gets approved by Feb 29.......2024

For what it's worth, I've only been tracking overall transfers but I've been tracking both overall average for transfers started at the beginning of June and a two-week rolling average rate (which, at this point, is about double the overall average) to give me a spread of when to expect transfers to be completed. Based on the last known transfer number I know of from October (60549xx), I am predicting the ON CFO will finish all handgun transfers between March 13 and March 27.

This is a good explanation..I bought the gun from Firearms Outlet and they are known to be one of the biggest sellers in Canada ,this explaining the delay -Larger dealer-larger queque

From the other Canada wide thread:

P2P in ON...mail-in transfer: 6029###

08/04/22 ~ 02/23/2023

Missing the 5th digit to determine whether it was a Sep 11 or a Sep 12 initiation. Regardless, it took over 5 weeks from when it was mailed to be initiated.

The 08/04 would be considered transfer initiation as that was when the registered mail was received by CFO per tracking.

The reference number (6029###) is from the range of numbers assigned Sept 11 to Sept 12. My understanding is that the reference number is assigned on the initiation date and at the time of initiation the next available reference is assigned to that transfer. Am I incorrect?

Could we get your 5th digit to confirm whether it was Sept 11 or Sept 12? What was the actual date that the transfer was mailed in?

Seller mailed it out 07/29/2022 and signed for by CFO 08/04/2023.
But who knows this could have sat in the queue from that time before they put it on their system as this is mail-in transfer.

My mistake. I have never done a mail-in. I assumed they were mailed to the CFP in Miramichi who would initiate the transfer and forward it to the Ont CFO.

So you had a triple wait. First wait for Canada Post to deliver. Next wait for the CFO to initiate it and add it to the queue. Finally wait for the CFO to approve.

Regardless it took a long time.

I purchased online on 1st September from FOC but the pdf says "Date Received: September 18, 2022"

What does that infer? FOC waited 17 days to initiate?

Date Received on the pdf = initiation date, so yes, FOC waited 17 days to initiate the transfer. That's about how long they waited to initiate one of mine as well. :(
