UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

I took the scabbard idea from everyone else's post. The laser sight just seem natural on a gun that is meant to be shot from the hip.

Still need to send Steve some money for the rear sight.

Now I just have to take it apart and get rid of all the grease.

Brass punch pics

Hi Z06,

It's on the Skinner's website. I posted the link ... it's at

hxxp://www.skinnersights.com/testimonials_12.html

Just (as I'm sure you know) change hxxp to http. I think that you have to scroll down a bit. I'll wait a bit to see if that other fellow accepts my offer ... and, if not, I'll send you the thing.

It's great fun handing it to fellow shooters and telling them that it's firearm-related ... and then asking them to guess what the hell it is :)

Edit after five minutes: Aha! I just noticed that you asked for an "end" view of the punch. Unfortunately, my picture-posting skills are about the same as my gunsmithing skills, so that's not gonna happen. Basically (as you can see) it's an eight cm brass cylinder with a nicely stippled 6 cm handle that's 1 cm in diameter. The 2 cm business-end (punch) has a diameter of 8 mm and has a full-length machined flat that's about 5.8 mm wide. The distance from the flat to the outer edge of the curved side is about 6.5 mm.

I hope this (and the website photo) helps.

I just got mine today. I got a single point bungee sling with it, and it felt very good. I doubt I will get a long stock for it. With the bungee on the saddle ring, holding the rifle left handed, the sling under tension is at my left cheek, and I can use it as a bit of a rest. It is in the way a little with the left hand, but not uncomfortable. Cycling the action is very easy with this sling. Sights are back on target very quickly.

tbtwlf, How well does the mount fit on your mag tube? Looks like a good setup!
What caliber is the gun and where did you get the mount?

The mount came with the laser and was from ebay. About 20.00 shipped from china.

I had to grind it a bit to fit the space.

Mine is a 44 magnum.

I am now thinking about getting a boyd's stock and making a stock extension. Keep the short stock on but drill and tap the butt plate to accept bolts passed through a cutoff from the boyd's stock. I need to think it through some more but it may work.

I also want to get some of steve's peep sights.

And I haven't even shot the damn thing yet.

I second that. My Boyd's stock is quite a bit thicker bottom to top (over 1/4 ") around the wrist area (I guess on the theory that it's easier to take wood off than add it) but Kanaima's pics show what the finished product should look like. I suspect i'll need more than 2 hours sanding though:(

High quality 60 grit sandpaper on a sanding block will remove a lot of wood really fast. When I first mounted my stock I thought the same thing, this is going to take a long time to sand to fit. It didn't. I used a permanent marker to roughly mark how much wood had to come off, then I removed the stock and sanded like a demon until I got close to my markings. Then I mounted the stock and switched to 120 grit for the close fitting, then 220, then 330.

It's only logical, really. Just go to the sandpaper file in the shop/garage and choose four quality grits in descending order. May I ask what type of sandpaper is this? I think that some is black, but I've also seen stuff that looks kinda brownish. :)

the black sandpaper is for metal
Dont cheep out on sandpaper cheep sandpaper sucks to work with

If the sandpaper cracks when folded, it's the cheap stuff. I often use belt sander belts for hand sanding in rougher grits because they last forever and are stiffer in the hand.

yep sanding balts for the buck last the longest and that makes them the best value

Went out and blasted a dozen rounds from the 44 today. It packs a wallop. Action was decent. Not great but OK. Hard to get used to firing without a rest point. The single point sling helps, but I need practice. I think with practice and a bungee sling this is a lot of punch in a small package. New sights are a must!

Skinner's Sights scabbard for the Rossi Ranch Hand ...

Hi Gary,

If any of your RH owners are thinking about getting this cool little carrying-case, be sure to tell them that (when they're ordering it) to specify that the interior length must be at least 24" or ... otherwise ... the RH won't fit.

The standard off-the-shelf 24" model probably won't work. I speak from experience ...

some local cops were at the range the other day when I was trying mine out and they already knew all about the ranch hand. Its becoming a pretty well known firearm so I can't see it being a problem.

I keep a copy of the registration in my gun case at all times...just in case.

I don't know if the last 3 words were a pun, but I found it amusing as a pun. :)

With non-restricted there is no longer a legal reason to have certificates.
With restricted, keeping the certificates in the case is silly because you can't legally open the case anywhere but home or the range. (Or if you live at the range then (sing along now) 'home home on the range where the deer and the antilope play. Where never is heard a ... '.)

That said, I understand if a CZ-858-2 (non-restricted) owner decides to keep their registration certificate with them. And frankly, being a free society, I also have no problem with people keeping all their registration certs with them, regardless of the law's absent-requirement.

And if you live in Quebec, ignore this post in its entirety, and please accept my sorrows.
