UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

Well some bad news from williams - they say none of their rear sights will fit. They've had this problem with rossi before. They're talking with their techs to consider rossi-specific offerings in the near future, but for now we're out of luck in that regard.

He doesn't think their front sights are going to fit either - but we'll wait and see what rossi has to say about their dimensions and then go from there.

I suppose one could shim one of their things into place but i'd rather have something built right to start with.

Those other reports are wrong. I ordered two from Skinner, a .375 and a .390. Guess which one works?

Well it would seem you're correct based on the info i got from williams. And i doubt the ranch hand is any different than the other rossi's.

Did you ever swap out the front sight? I'm curious as to what that one is.

Well Gary is such a nice guy he accepted to take my defective ranch hand back and exchange it for a new one !
I like the way he does buisness !
I seriously don't want to have to deal with Taurus ever again...

Unrelated-to-gunsights good news ...

Hey guys,

I've been looking for a few days for a handy inexpensive good-quality case to carry the Ranch Hand, and I just found TWO options in the "Scabbards" section of the Skinner Sights webpage.

hxxp://www.skinnersights.com/scabbards_20.html

The company's barrel-mounted peep seems lower than our current rear sights, and is designed/available to fit the weird-sized dovetail on the Ross1. I believe it was mentioned in a much earlier thread.

Great little website.

The front sight seems to have a screw in brass part near the top.

Maybe there's some fiber optic sight that can be screwed into where the brass bit screws into.

Overlooked solution

Now I know why cold-case detectives go back and re-read old files.

Buried in small print beneath a photo in a post from Hans to Foxer ...

FOXER, the fiber optic front sight that I have on my 45 came from Steve Young and is the same height as the original one. With standard pressure loads (Wolf 250g reloads) and the skinner rear peep sight poi=poa at 100 yards. This was not the case with the original front sight and a Marbles Bullseye rear <where> poi was about 6-8" high.

So, combine a Rossi-specific dovetail barrel-mount peepsight from Skinners with the Rossi-specific dovetail standard-height (there is only one height, I think) fiber optic from Steve's Guns ... and we're good-to-go!! Hans said he got POA = POI at 100 yards ... which also means they're equal at about 15 - 25 yards. BTW, I believe that he mentioned that he removed the aperture and used it as a ghost ring, and that it worked decently in low light.

What's not to like? And you can order a 24" or 25" case from Skinner's at the same time.

Or am I missing something? Hans, please confirm :)

And (please God) don't tell me that they don't ship to Canada!

Well a 44 isn't a 45, but I do recall someone saying steve had a .50 front sight for the rossi (hopefully in fibre optic.). I think that's probably the best we're going to do.

We'll wait and see what rossi has to say about the front sight size. Worst case i don't mind shimming the front quite as much if we have to - at least it stays in one place and the skinner rear sight is easy to drift.

Hi Foxer,

Can you imagine what time and brainpower spent "noodling" around on this thread could have earned in The Real World?

I suddenly came face-to-face with the fact that I now have a "hobby" ... a word that hasn't seen much use since ... the word "rec-rooms."

The trajectories are surprisingly close ... based on a graph that I looked-at last night.

"Wait and see what Rossi has to say ... "

As if ...

I'm thinking that Rossi intentionally sent-out a sweet but majorly-flawed product ... just so that all its eager buyers could have the bonding experience of fixing it.

No, they're not that

So what is the latest on the Rossi Ranch Hand, any available right now in 45 LC or 44 MAG AND where can we buy them?

No. And never.

I hope.

I don't want to sound like a ####, but I'm hoping that our "unofficial" vetting system will (compared to the RCMP's overworked and underpaid system) be better at dealing with this ####.

Probably a troll ... but ... damn ... he could spell!

Great news sports fans! the front sight dovetail isn't .375 either! I knocked it out and tried a Skinner front post I had kicking around and it slid right through.
So who has a .500 tall .390 dovetail front sight?

The guy from williams figured they went with 'metric' instead of 'imperial' :D

There will be a good answer to this, we'll just have to find it.

Lovely.

Steve has size appropriate front sights, but i'm not sure he has them in fibre optics which is what i really want.

I'm looking at a couple options - i think i'll also give a call to dlask and see if they have any bright ideas or perhaps bits and pieces. There might be a simple solution we're missing.

Enuf already :)

Really.

I'n gonna go wrap-up in my HBC six-point wool banky (a Christmas gift from my wife in 1971) and relax on the deck in my seven-year-old Cabelas zero-gravity lounger (Size XL) ... and watch the stars (courtesy of Fusion) circle overhead :)
