UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

Anyone know of a way to get tritium night sights on this baby?

If you look around on the web there's some tritium sticks that are about the same size as the light stick on a fibre optic front, but really the fibre optic is plenty.

woot got my holster today! thanks Gary and team again!

So, how does it feel to wear it? Is it comfortable or is it kind of awkward or what?

SHARE you bugger :) Some of us haven't got one yet ! :) (I'm waiting till i see what sights i get on mine before ordering)

It feels comfortable just standing and walking around, kneeling down feels a lot better than I had anticipated, which is good for my field work in the summers. I havent done too much quick drawing, but nothing seems to get caught up or anything. it will need to be worked in as far as fully seating the gun in it right off the bat. area in front of the rear sight seems to get stuck most of the way in the holster where the front cut in the holster ends, but that will go away with time as it is broken in. as far as chafing the leg, I dont know, I will have to hike a lot with it and see what happens. Also I am unsure of how comfortable it would be moving into and out of helicopters, but only time will tell! As far as the look, fit and initial impressions go, I am thinking it is pretty awesome.

the ranch hand is sitting in it right now, I am breaking it in like a baseball glove :p

Fiber optic ...

I agree with Foxer about the fiber-optic sight (if it's good quality) being fine for the job. I've had a green TruGlo on the front of my Marine Magnum for four years, and it seems excellent in almost any kind of low-light situation.

If it's so dark that the TruGlo is inadequate, it's likely too dark to safely ID your target.

I'm waiting for the generic one to arrive from Steve's Gunz.

My Skinner's barrel-mounted peep arrived today and looks to be of excellent quality.

A quick note on the holsters...The Saddle maker told me they will be stiff to start and will need some break in....also oil is good to use but may darken or alter the color a little bit...Im not much of a leather expert, so just passing on what he tells me.
Enjoy...

thanks. it definitely needs break in, but that is a sign of good leather IMO.

I dont need none soft pansy leather! :p

If you didn't have to break it in, it would be made with poor components. Good sturdy leather always has a break in time.

And yes it's going to darken a little with oil. So oil your belt too. But leather is like skin it needs the protection.

ah but leather is skin! haha

You'll understand that this opens up a few questions as to who/what you've been dating, right? :)

Yes leather is skin that's been processed, but while it's much sturdier than real skin it does still need some of the same TLC that skin does. If it dries out it'll crack or become brittle and worn.

I like my holster so far. It's good and stiff and will probably break in nicely.
I've already installed a skinner peep and the peep butts up against the sight cut in the holster, which is where it wants to be, I guess.
I'd still like to do a bandolier though. I may just pick up some leather and see about making one. I'm already accumulating the tools.
Something like this maybe:

Curious as well ...

I'm also curious to know about the results of installing the Skinner barrel-mounted peep / ghost ring. I have one sitting on my counter.

"Know-it-all" friends are telling me that this nominally-lower gunsight will fix the RH's goofy sighting geometry all by itself, but I'm still sure that it'll require costly adjustments at both ends of the barrel.

Especially including a weirdly-tall untraditional front sight from Steve's Gunz that I'm still awaiting. Glad to get it, but damn, Rossi could have done it right for zero dollars.

"but damn, Rossi could have done it right for zero dollars."

No kidding, I'm going through this stuff to make my wife's Marlington 1895GBL right, then my Ranch Hand is going to come in and I'll have to go through it as well. What's with these gun manufacturers pumping out firearms that just aren't right?

Any chance on still getting one of these Mare's Legs ?
What was the final cost $629.00 ? (100 pages is NUTZ to go through).

I thought these rifles should have their own thread, for shipment updates and price updates etc.

For those of you that dont know, the rossi ranch hand is a mares leg rifle with a 12 inch barrel and cut down butt stock and has an OAL of 24".

Gary recently informed us that these rifles have been classified as non-res and has an order coming in of 44magnum, 357magnum/38spl, and 45LC

$650 is the ESTIMATED price these will be coming in for and we can only hope it is less than or equal to that.

I am looking forward to purchasing one as it will make for the perfect bush gun for animal defense, and will be just a handy little rifle to carry around the farm.

I think these rifles will be a popular item and I appreciate Gary going through the trouble to bring them into the country!

UPDATE: First shipment is due at the end of march.

Holsters are being looked into by Gary from Wanstalls (see posts 64 through 72), and spacesaver is also looking into making holsters.

Also I am getting PMs asking which dealer is selling these oddly enough... this is the dealer wanstalls section, and it is wanstalls who is bringing these rifles in to Canada.

I can see the killjoy CFOs pressuring the RCMP to reclassify these guns to restricted if they start turning up in large numbers in leg holsters on the hips of GunNutz.
