UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

Are you talking about the scout rail that Rossi makes for some of their guns?

Yeah. It's good to go for our guns, rather than something custom.

But if a custom dovetail solution is required then Dlask could whip something up from what i understand.

Gotta ask ...

If two tiny bits of blued steel for about $60 from the Excited States can maybe do the job, why clutter-up the sweet lines of the RH with unnecessary s**t?

Like a guy I met in Morocco used to say all the time.....Pourquoi pas?

I filled my sights to work for free so I guess anything else is technically unnecessary..... I wouldn't mind mounting an XS peep though so I will need a higher front sight and I will need to blank out the stupid safety ( talk about clean lines...:puke:)

Once I can get a peep going with a nice fiber optic front sight I wouldn't mind a rail up front for optional red dot, laser, light etc.....nice to have options and I won't need the rear sight at that point!
I'm thinking I might even attach a rail for a light to the forestock as it seems quite solid and there is a fair bit of stock in front of the the barrel band.

Can-down has the exact same plan I do.

Rear peep and fiber front sight. Then a small rail for a micro dot.

Front stock with a small rail mounted for a small light/laser.

Then it will be an ideal wilderness defense gun. For me at least. :)

Well i got mine out shooting today in the woods a bit. Damn that's pretty fun :)

I bought an inexpensive bungee cord single point sling, and i was impressed with how it added to the stability of the gun and made it an easy carry slung slightly behind my back. I'd have to mod it a little tho - the 'tail' between where the bungees meet and where it hooks on to the gun needs to be shorter. Easy fix tho.

Mine doesn't seem to hit quite so high. But it's hard to tell just knocking over cans and the like.

I set up some tins on an old fallen log - slightly rotting but still a lot of solid wood. I hit low and struck the log near the top. I was really surprised at the damage that bullet did. The bullet 'opened up' fully after the first inch and blew a very respectable 2.5 - 3 inch diameter 'wound channel' in the wood with lots of disruption around it. Just looking at it and knowing what other bullets have done in the past from other cartridges, i'm pretty confident in the stopping and killing power of the cartridge. I wasn't worried or anything but this is the first time i've really played with the 44 on anything other than paper.

I'll have to tune it at the range, but so far i'm lovin' the gun :)

Good to hear foxer! Mine definately shoots high, so it will definately be aftermarket sights for me. I will see what people get and what works and just copy them probably ;)

I cant wait to get my holster, should make shooting a little more fun !

Well i'll probably go aftermarket anyway - i like the skinner sights and i want fibre optics for the front to see better in dark forests.

Just waiting now ...

I've ordered a Skinner's barrel-mounted peep / ghost ring, and from Steve's Gunz his higher-than-stock (no specific details available) green fiber-optic front sight and his low flat-top rear sight.

(I chose the green fiber-ptic because I have a $25 green Tru-Glo front bead on my Marine Magnum., and like it.)

That ought to do it, I hope. :)

I also ordered Skinner's 24" padded nylon gun scabbard and Steve's Model 92 DIY tune-up kit.

I'm uneasy about dis-assembling a complex lever-action firearm, and will be sending the stuff (along with my rifle) to Gary (and his gunsmith) in Mission.

I'm hoping that at least one of the rear sights will work with the new front.

They've (naturally) got "carte blanche" to blast way (on my dime) until they're satisfied that the gun is as good as it can be.

Well it'll be interesting to hear the results - by then dlask should have some ideas for us if we need to go from there.

I'll (naturally) keep everybody posted as things move-along.

If both rear sights are a reasonable "go" (as far as POA = POI) ... I wonder which one I'll prefer.

Late to the party :-( Just asked to be put on the list for the next shipment. What happened to the full stock idea? Not needed after all?
Full stocks are doable but I need export permits etc...and commitments. From what i hear there is minor fitting needed and I've always been concerned with the PITA factor in matching up the wood. Which alternatively means getting the forend too which means more costs...

Ranch Hand heads-up!

Fellow owners,

I was shooting yesterday, and this morning I noticed a small hole in the right-hand side of the receiver. And I'm pretty damn sure that it wasn't there before.

If you look at the schematic in the owner's manual on Page 18, it's the hole for Part #49, the small "Cartridge Guide Screw" that secures Part #57 (the "Cartridge Guide, Right") to the interior right wall of the receiver.

Two interesting points. First, the "Cartridge Guide, Right" still seems to be rock solid and immoveable. Maybe it's just securely wedged in there.

And second ... remember that I said I was "pretty damn sure" that the hole wasn't there before? Well ... don't laugh ... but "pretty damn sure" isn't 100%, but I can't imagine not noticing it before. And when I looked at two photographs in the owner's manual of the right side of the receiver (one on Page 11, and the second one down on Page 13) ... it "appears" to be an empty hole at that spot. Maybe it's a chronic problem ... check yours (for tightness) and please let me/us know :)
