UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

Sounds like you boys are going to have to learn how to replace your divots :D

Having seen what the 240's will do, i sure as crap wouldn't want to get hit with a 300 hard cast.

I saw on another thread you were looking into a Chiappa 44 mag. Why did you go with the 357? I want a 44 mag and really I will just buy the first one that comes in. Did they give you a timeline on the chiappa?

I still want 44 but It is not in stock right naw so the 357 will work till i get the 44 plus the 44 I am going to carve my own full stock for it. Garry has two Chiappa mares lag take-down both in 357 one is mine!

I handled one of the chiappa's at Wanstalls the other day. It's actually an inch shorter than the rossi. I have to say I really liked it, tho personally for the money i'm still happy with my rossi. But - I sure wouldn't complain about having one of those chiappa's either :)

Sweet gun - i'm sure you'll like it.

I was thinking of getting one in .357 just for shooting for fun, the ammo for 38spl is cheap as dirt compared to 44 mag.

I haven't fired it of course, but I have to say although i don't normally care for octogon barrelled guns (i often find them a little nose heavy and a little 'clunky' to maneuver), the chiappa feels VERY nice in the hand and handles very well and feels very good for a ranch hand style. Tried it on with my new sling which i was buying in the store and it felt nice. Weight is good, balance is nice, it's a very good interpretation of the ranch hand concept (compared to the henry for example which i felt was not as good an interpretation).

I still don't generally like 'take downs' (and seriously - it's so small already do we REALLY need to take it down?) just because it introduces more opportunity for failure but If the rossi and the Chiappa were around the same price, it would have been a much much tougher choice.

I still love my rossi the best (and i seem to have lucked out and got a very smooth one that just works) but i sure as heck would not mind having one of those chiappas in the vault, not at all.

I don't doubt that :)

Some will like it, some will not. The example at gary's rattled too much for my taste, but probably doesn't affect function in the slightest.

the fact it's a take down is not a reason not to buy it. It's just something that doesn't appeal to ME as a good feature. But what a boring world it would be if they only made guns that everyone liked perfectly :)

Oregon Trail Bullet Company makes a very nice 300 grain .44 lead bullet. I bought 500 about 10 years ago. Their Canadian distributor at that time was a gun store in Kamloops. In checking their web site this morning they indicate Wholesale Sports as a dealer. Be advised they are great bullets but shipping by Canada post really hurts the wallet!
