UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

Did anyone ever source, or make, a rail to replace the rear sight?

I want to add a red dot to mine

Rossi makes it - http://www.rossiusa.com/accessories-scope.cfm

15 bucks - and any gunsmith should be able to drill and tap your barrel for about 20 bucks a hole. So installed it should still be under a hundred to get it done. Maybe less.

It's less than 100 bucks for the part so maybe they'll ship it to Canada, but if not wantsalls should be able to order the part for you.

I'm just ordering steve's replacement rear sight. At first i thought it would make the problem with rossi's shooting high worse, but after talking to steve and doing the math the fact it's set so much farther back should actually improve the issue, if it's added to one of his high fibre sights.

My only concern is i hate 'drifting' front sights for aim - i've never mastered the technique :) But i'll see if i can't get it figured out. Elevation is easy.

Let us know. Take pictures :) I'm interested in it as well and be curious on your review. I started fitting an 1892 deluxe stock to mine and was thinking a nice red dot or scout style low magnification scope + mount would be wicked for brush gun duty

My new Rossi Ranch Hand will be be arriving in March, thanks
to Stefan at Wanstall's. I've already got a Boyd's semi-inlet
butt stock coming as well as a Marbles Bullseye rear sight
and .538" high front sight with 1/16" brass bead.(Brownells)

These sights are very quick to use and allow for precise aiming.
I mounted these sights on my .454 and .44 mag. Rossi carbines
and I highly recommend them.Besides, they look very cool on
the Rossi carbines.

:D

They are indeed very cool sights shell shucker - The challenge has been that many sights fitted in the very short barrel length of a ranch hand cannot be lowered enough to have poa meet poi at closer ranges.

Which may or may not be a problem for some of course.

I'm curious tho - how did you fit them for the non-standard dovetail. The rossi dovetails are larger that most dovetails. The vast majority of dovetail sights available are too small for them. Did you shim them or something?

As luck would have it, the Marble's sights have a generous sizing on
their dovetails so that you still have to touch up the Rossi dovetail with
a fine file to get a proper fit. Rossi dovetails are .379" compared to the
standard .375". For proper fitting be sure to work only one side of the
dovetail to keep the dovetail straight.

Rossi dovetails are .160" deep and +/- .390" wide are they not?

If one checks around the web for Rossi dovetail dimensions they will
find that older Rossi's with the barrel band mounted front sights
will have dovetails averaging from .390" to .400".

The newer Rossi DT's average out to .387". Both my newer Rossi's
(.454 mag. 20" & .44 mag. 16") have dovetail cuts at .380".
So I either fluked out on having 2 Rossi's with tighter dovetails or
Brownell's sent me special sized Marble's sights.(Don't think so, as
I did'nt specify what gun they were going on.)

As seen in the pics, the Marble's sights fit right & tight in the dovetails
on my Rossi .44 and note that in order to get the Marble's .538" high
front sight to clear the barrel band, you must grind back the front face of
the sight.

All I can say is try the Marble's sights on new Rossi's and work careful
when fitting them.

It would make sense for Marble's to be slightly oversized so it can be custom fit to a loose or out of spec dovetail.

Is the Rossi Mares Leg available from a dealer and if so what is the price?

I cannot believe you asked that on a DEALER thread dedicated to the gun, in which the price is mentioned.

The gun IS available - wanstalls sells them but unfortunately they tend to sell out as soon as they get some in, and then you have to wait for the next batch.

Wanstalls also sells the Chiappa mare's leg (which is very nice). it costs more but it's a nice gun and an inch shorter than the rossi.

i have the rossi in 44 which i bought from wanstalls. You can pm gary to get an idea of pricing and when the next batch is in. I know of one other store in the lower mainland who had a rossi in, but it was in 357 mag.

I had a look at the Chiappa in the store and it has a very nice finish but is a bit out of my budget.

I looked on the Wanstalls site but the Rossi is not listed, hence my question.

WEll like i said i know of one in the lower mainland, don't know what they're asking for it. PM me if you want the name of the store. It was a 357 i believe

otherwise, ask gary to put you on the list. I don't know when the next delivery is due.

There are 50 people in line for ranch hands at wanstalls. These things are like gold in canada. The henry and chiappa are easier to find, but the 44 is Very difficult to find in Canada right now.
