Well,I took this rifle out today for the second time and this time I was trying out a handload I came up with using H4350 and 215 grain Sierra BTSP's. It shot quite well, with several group in the 1 inch range for three shots at 1-00 yards.

I also tried another factory load; the Weatherby 225 Spire Point load - and it shot great! Here is one of the three shot groups I attained at 100 yards. :) If I can't come up with a comparably shooting handload, I can always hunt with this one. :D

should be an accurate rifle, basically Weatherby's version of the Sendero

IIRC they sold for around $1800-2000

Hey Jeff,

I have never heard anything bad about them. I have only had experience with the Vanguard which was positive.

What calibre?

James

It's the one I mentioned in my other thread....340 Weatherby!

Jeff, I see others are saying 3000+ fps. with 250s. This is a little optomistic. I've owned 3 340s myself and 2900-2950 fps is max. You'll find out for yourself anything you can kill at 3000 you can still kill at 2900+. Some guns may go that fast but if your primer pockets open up after 2 fireings its too hot. If its any consolation they will go 3100 with 225s.

It's mine....MUUUUHAAHHHHH!

Thanks again guys, I bought it! :D

Here it is...

Now I just have to decide what glass to put on it...suggestions? :)

Thanks again for your feedback fellers! - Jeff.

NICE RIFLE!!!!!
I wish that i could afford one of those now.... I need a new rifle and hopefully it will be of quality. I'm not complaining about any of my rifles, hell with my winny 300 mag i can shoot touching 3 hole groups! But i always have wanted a stainless fluted rifle of higher quality like a sako or weatherby.

Thanks Riley...it's by far the most expensive rifle I have ever owned.

Jeff.

Jeff.....nice one......a friend bought one a few years ago in 30-378....I liked the gun but thought the cartridge was over the top....I thought that the same rifle in 300 or 340 would be the ticket.........are you going out ot whack a bear with it?

They are nice accurate rifles, normally for me they are to heavy but in a 340 weatherby it will be the perfect weight as it would have heavy recoil if it were light.

This is what I thought too...I won't enjoy the extra weight when I'm lugging it around the bush, but I sure will when I am shooting it from the bench!

now that you've got a quality rifle, you want to look REAL hard at both the mounts and glass- in 338-340 you'll want something in 4x12 preferably rather than 3x9 with at least a 40mm objective, or so i've found- and maybe a HARRIS bipod- better to have and not need- you've probably already got a stud forend mount for a sling
