Our club is trying to resurrect our trap a Winchester Western White Flyer V1524 handset, which had a broken carrier arm and because of that sat for several years. We got a replacement carrier arm from Western Retro, changed out the carrier arm. Drained and refilled the oil, lubed what needed to be lubed. Then we tested it.
Trap works great when set for straight away throwing, spread adjusting screw in the middle hole as per the manual. Trap throws exceptionally well. No oscillation at all it's good.
However, when we move the spread adjusting screw to the # 2 hole in the Angle Changing Disk (for standard oscillation) the machine begins to oscillate then it stalls/stops/sticks for a second or two then starts and oscillates again for 20 seconds or so then sticks. The machine always sticks/stops in any hole we've set it for. This shouldn't be happening and didn't happen before (to my knowledge). The conditions would indicate either a lubrication issue or a gear(s) problem. We have double checked the fluids and again oiled as per the lubrication guide. No luck doing that.
We need to get in and look at all the gears. Especially the oscillation gears/mechanical interrupter components & gears. I don't even know where these are located. They don't appear in the parts assemblies manual but have there own sheet in the manuals section of Western Retro. Doesn't say where they are located, how to get to them, or show any fully exploded diagrams for the trap. Anyone know where to obtain these, the drawings/diagrams I mean.
We tried taking off the gear housing cover we got the 4 Allen bolts out fine but we could NOT lift the cover. We don't want to be whacking it with a hammer or trying to pry it off as that may not be the correct way and we don't want to do damage to the unit or make our problem worse Does any one have any clue to trouble shooting the unit? Have an exploded drawing? Know how to get to the mechanical interrupter components??
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. We are DESPERATE at this point. Our shooting season only has maybe another 2 months to go. Our club is losing member as it is and going without a trap for the rest of this shooting year won't do us any good at all.
I've got email and phone calls into Ian at Western Retro but haven't heard a thing back as of yet. Anyone ??? Any help greatly appreciated. This is becoming a nightmare.
The manuals at Western Retro don't show a dis-assembly or exploded view drawings.
