URGENT - Safety issue - CCI Standard Velocity 22 LR Ammo

Thanks for sharing. please keep us updated with any new information. That really sucks about your Tikka. Kbdplinker was able to use the distributor to return his defective ammo to. Perhaps he can fill you and the rest of us in on the process?

Im not saying that I won't run into similar issues with other brands. But customer service from CCI is way lacking. Grey Wolf guys (CCI distributor) were great. They really stepped up to the plate for CCI as far as I'm concerned, but they could only take it so far.

In my mind, CCI should have told Grey Wolf to pick up ammo and pass over a case of same or better and comp them for it.

Just demand that the CCI rep you contact to have the closest distributor rep pick it up from you. Grey Wolf seems to be southern Ontario. They will arrange it for you.

This stuff is made by RWS. Like most of their stuff, it is very greasy. So is Eley BTW.

I switched to it as my go to ammo for my bolt actions not because of this CCI debacle, but because after trying it, I found it shot considerably better; that is, more consistent, noticeably smaller groups, less fliers, and the fliers did not fly as far.

Take paper towels or Kleenex or even a small hand towel to wipe your precious little fingers with.

I have quit using CCI STD in my High Standard Pistol because of the problems; I have not noticed any excessive fouling, and the pistol sure runs nice on Tac 22 also.

Must be the Eley higher than Club & Team. I don't find that greasy, just seems to have standard amount of wax.

SK Rifle Match is pretty oily (if you can find any)

I don't find Sport too greasy. TAC 22 was like it was sprayed down with PAM. Had issues trying to load it in my 1022, my thumb would slip.

But I don't use it anymore because didn't work for me.

Har Har, you be surprised what these Precious hands and fingers have done.

Well we all seen Glenns dead horse, what works for you, may not work for others.
 
.22LR has a well-earned reputation for every gun liking a different flavour. There's no one ideal brand that feeds wonderfully in every action and always finds the bullseye! Try a variety, some CCI and Eley and SK/Lapua (if you can find it) and Norma and RWS, and see what works best. Then keep the rest of those boxes to try in your next 22 because it will have its preference too.

Federal auto match has been mentioned a while ago. I bought a 3250 flat but haven't really tried it. A relative had trouble with duds. The lack of mentions now suggest quality has decreased but i would love to hear otherwise.

It's too bad sk is rare to find. The price and high quality was a sweet spot.

Pre Covid Automatch was my go-to, I found that it's quality (consistency) had really slipped, not just between lot numbers, but often within the same box. I have heard some say it is much better now, but now that I have an ammo that I like, I see no point in trying something different, unless it has the potential to shoot better than what I have presently. I already have a pile of boxes and part boxes that I don't shoot, I don't need any more.

Local police are not in the business of dealing with large volumes of manufacturer defects so no surprise they were unable to help.

After several e-mails back to CCI and a few weeks I was contacted by the local distributor for western canada - things moved fast once I had a phone number and name for the local contact. I dropped the ammo off at a store close by the same day.

That was about a week ago. Now waiting in the cheque to arrive. Hoping it covers the actual cost with tax and shipping since this was very clear in the receipts sent in... I will update again when it comes.

Update for me - I just received my cheque from CCI. The covered all my gun repair expenses, replacement costs of two magazines and the 700 rounds of ammo that I brought to the police. The police were happy to take it and gave me a receipt. The process was a a real PITA but no no one's fault (other than CCI making a batch of ####ty ammo). All in all, I'm ok with how CCI dealt with it. Happy to have my gun back and shooting again.
