US GI wanting .308 back

- The US Mil is in Iraq is in a similar spot as the CF is for Afghan, with the exception that 99.9% of Vehicle Patrolling is done by cook and bottle washers rerolled into "Infantry" for the tour

They never leave their vehicles -- and they have no idea how to conduct counter insurgency operations.

Many of the bayonet types of the US mil are on a 4th (or more) combat tour (either OIF or OEF) Real Infantry units (82nd Abn or 101st) will do foot patrol and eveyone dismounted -- but they are stretched so thin that they have huge patrol sectors and need to mount for most of it

The result of running a war with only one foot in the ring.

I'm a big fan of a Mk11/M110 rifle in the section/squad or at least the platoon, but keep in mind that is for precision fire -- the M204 (C6) and M203's and the vehicle Mk19 or M2 are for penetrating obstacles -- and here with the building construction even a M240 is not a good tool for knocking holes in cover -- a M14/SR25 is definetly not that sort of thing either.
